      Re: which AR?

One of the cool things about buying a mil-spec AR is you can easily swap uppers to a different caliber or barrel configuration. The kids like to shoot it with the .22lr upper.

That is way cool. I love the modular platform of the AR.

AK-47 milled. bc sometimes you have to shoot through walls and engine blocks.

BUSHMASTER!! I'm biased, they are from my home state, but they still make quality products.

If i had to pick an AR, i would go with noveske, lmt or colt 6940.

Noveske makes good barrels. I got a couple laying around for future projects when I get time.

I bet a Colt AR goes for a decent dime, huh? Being they bought the design from Armolite.
What does Colt list their AR for?

                    Re: which AR?

Colts tend to be the more expensive of the bunch. I was basing my reply on price. Of course Colt is superior.

                      Re: which AR?

after all the research i think the best deal is a RRA AR. they have really high marks in production quality and i have never seen a poor review after searching the net.

bushmaster would be next as you can get a base model for $800ish

i think colt is great but for the $$$ i dont think you get more gun just better resale and the name. most top end manufacturers make an AR as good and some arguable better

                        Re: which AR?

Oh yeah. With Colt you're paying for that Colt engraving, and the fact that it is the original AR.
I have always thought Bushmaster was one of the superior rifles as well.
Some of our American makes are less costly for the fact of being American made. And that can go the other way too. But, there are those countries that tax the shit out of their firearms because of their notoriety, or claim, that anything produced in that, or those, countries is of the highest engineering on the planet. (fart-sound) cause that's what I think about some of them.
For instance Ruger. $350 will get you a damn fine combat 9mm that'll go pound for pound with most anything you run against it. I'll let y'all come up with your own comparisons, prices, country of origin...and compare. Folks tend to get too caught up in the name, and status symbol of some of the "finer" firearms. I'm just the opposite. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the "safe-queens." I love refined firearms. I'm a John Moses Browning fan to the end. He was one helll of an innovator. But my Mossberg is what I want in my hands when the zombies come. Not my Browning Auto-5 12ga. It's jammed on me several times throughout my life. Mossberg, never. I just need my AKM during the apocalypse. G19 on my hip. No oil or cleaning required.

                          Re: which AR?

I still love my Stag. It is extremely accurate, has nice recoil, and looks great to boot, plus it comes with a lifetime warranty. Keep in mind that the military and a lot of swat teams use Stag. And I haven't heard anyone talk about Daniels Defense or Rock River Arms, but perhaps its out of your budget if you are sticking to the $800 range. Stag is in that range though. But I don't believe you could go wrong with Bushmaster either.

Rock River. That's another one with a good rep.

I believe Armolite designed a solution to the ever problematic M16, with their developement of the M4.

Quite possibly the best rep out there, and if not, its on its way there.

                                Re: which AR?

I have a Rock River Arms AR and I love it! I went to a gun show in Phoenix and there was a table that only had every brand of AR. The guy was trying to talk us into Rock River but I have never heard of them. After the show I did a lot of research and found that Rock River is getting all of the government contracts for new rifles because of their reliability and durability. I ended up buying a lower receiver and then buying the complete upper kit so I could assemble the gun myself. 3 years ago my AR costed my $620. I could not be more happy with the gun that I built. I still have the phone number of the gun dealer from Vegas that sold me the complete upper for an awesome deal. Send me a PM if you want it.
