Made the plunge...

again. Being my last set of tires lasted all of about 22k miles, I went with the Firestone Destination LE this time. It's a less aggressive tread pattern. Non-directional. More of-a comfort/city/highway tire, but with a little umph in the traction and performance dept over your average highway tire.
Man, I love getting new tires. It's like a new truck.

We put a set of these on the wife's Expedition several years ago, and they wore excellent! They drove great, handled wet conditions like a champ. So, I figured I give 'em a go on my truck.
I remember they hardly showed any wear after about 30K miles on the Expo. My wife does drive very conservatively, but still...that's some excellent wear, or lack of.
We'll see how they do with my driving style. I can already tell they're not as responsive as my last set, (Falken Zeix), but, they're not pushed as a performance tire, so I don't expect them to be. I need more than 20k on a set, and I really love the ride quality of the new ones.
They proved a damn solid tire on the Expo. The Falkens proved a damn solid performer for 15K miles, but were shit in the ride-comfort dept. I'm over 'em now. I want traction (dry & wet), a comfotable ride, and at least 40K miles. Which I believe I'll have in these.
As said: They proved their point on my wife's Expo. But my truck, my driving style, and a couple other variables that get dealt to a set of tires under me, and, we'll see how they do.
I'll have to dig this thread up in about 20K to touch-base.

Interesting you talk of Firestone. After 12k on my vette i needed new tires as well. The stock tires on the vette are very soft for better traction but wear very quickly. The tires are runflats and for $400 each. Talked to our family mechanic and he introduced me to the Firstones. Said you may sacrifice ride and a tiny bit of performance but these tires will last longer. And at the price $300 each installed, i also took the plunge. They were great and lasted till I traded it in for a new vette at 30k miles, 18k on Firestone tires and still going

There aren't many name brand tires that are worth the price anymore. By "name brand" I mean the old, been around forever, Goodyears, Michelins, Firestones, etc...Now days you can get tires that perform better and last longer in a set of some new, not-so-heard-of brands for a fraction of the price of the old-school big brands which aren't keeping up with the competition, literally. Goodyear being the 1st to come to mind. Goodyear has been producing pure shit for a well over 10yrs now, and charging that Goodyear price.
Michelins, on the other hand. Excellent brand. Excellent tires. But you pay top dollar when you say "Michelin". Those 2 are a great example of the old brands not keeping up with the market. Goodyears have just let quality go out the window long ago, but kept the price as if they're producing the best. negative ghostrider. Michelins...again, great tires. Big dollars. It seems that Firestone is tuned in to the consumer, and what we're paying for. They're producing quality tires, and pricing them to compete with the Nittos that have been chopping the competition's head off in the showroom, and on the track.
I'm damn glad to hear your satisfaction, and mileage you got with your Firestones on a Vette! That speaks volumes.

I forgot my truck rode so well. It's like a Lincoln Town Car again. Those Falkens rode like shit from day 1. You could say, "maybe I had a bad tire." But no. I tried everything. Rebalance, after rebalance/rotations...and that was the Road-Force balance. The machine that "puts your tire on the road". Latest greatest digital balancing machine. It wasn't 1 tire. You could feel it in your seat and in the steering wheel. They were just shitty tires. The reason I got them for my truck, though, was because I put a set of them on my wife's Passat. They were great on her little VW Passat. But that's a little modep tire compared to a truck tire. Maybe she got a good set, and maybe I got a bad set. Regardless, I'll never purchase a Falken again. And the best thing about these Firestones. I got them for less than the Falkens.
I'm a happy customer.

DESTINATION LE'S ARE 60 THOUSAND MILE TIRES ALSO..KEEP THEM ROTATED PROPERLY AND THEY WILL LAST THAT LONG OR LONGER. I GOT 72 THOUSAND MILES OUT OF A SET ON MY WIFES CAR. PRETTY GOOD TIRES

My wife is a very easy driver, and like I mentioned earlier in the thread. At about 35k, those Destination LEs hardly showed any wear. I was amazed.
I'll post up how they are under my truck down the road about 20k or so.

i got bridgestone RE 01 R tires.

they are owned by firestone. they grip like nothing else i have ever had but i have gotten 5000 miles out of them but what do you expect with a 160 tread wear rating.

luckily i got them for $100 each as they came out with the RE 11 and they were discontinued.

the destination LE are a fantastic tire. When i worked tires for many years i sold and installed many sets of these and i have to say the the LE's and the AT's are both great. I actually ahve a set of each on both my work trucks. Youe will pull 50k even with hard aggressive driving out of those. Good choice on the tire man.

awesome! Thank you! It's so nice to hear 1st hand reviews. Which I've experienced about 35k on an Expedition, and they were hardly half worn.

After speaking to several folks out-n-about, people don't have much bad to say about Firestone.
My mother got 25k out of factory BFGs on her '06 Mustang. (I looked at 'em today. She has another 5k), but I'm sure they'll spin over easy as hell. She called about what to get. She just got a thing in the mail from Firestone. I told her to check the Firehawk Indy500. She got 4 for under $600. $115 a tire. 18" too! Firestone is killin 'em right now.

i got 100k out of the stock goodyears on the f150...now these perellis i have, have 60k on them and i wont get another set of these!! i want to get some BFG's or another get of the goodyears

I think I had either Goodyears, or Michelins on mine from the factory. I got a decent 40k out of 'em. I would almost bet they were Goodyear, but for some reason I keep thinking they were those Michelin LTX.

40k?? wow...must have been the michelins bro....even taking them in on trade with 65 or 70k that goodyears were halfway ok at worse!!! you can sqeeze the miles out of those!!

I think they were. Which leads me to have less respect for Michelins and their high price. Everybody swears by those LTX. I got a good 40, and that was about it. After that, the ass end was all over if I had to pull out and get with the traffic flow, etc...

Has anyone noticed how tires are showing the-end now-days? Ya know, you used to see belts. They start doing funky stuff now-days. They separate in places that are scary...The tread separated from the tire for about 3" on my neighbor's Bridgestone Potenza ZR9s. They are on his Volvo. Potenzas have always been a good tire, but that didn't look good. Maybe he had them way over inflated??? Usually people stay right around that 35psi. I take mine up to 40psi.
My last set, those Falkens, smoothed out on the far inside tread of the front passenger side, and had 3 or 4 little flaps that separated. Like someone tried to fillet some rubber off every few inches. Crazy!
