CD Drive not working..can anyone help?

    CD Drive not working..can anyone help?

    My CD drive is not working ..or being recognized!

    When I insert a cd into the computer nothing happens..nothing pops up..
    Then I went to windows media player and when I go to rip it says a cd drive is needed.

    So I went to the control panel and clicked on system properties and under cd/dvd rom drives: it has my cd rom device listed so I clicked on it and says

    "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

    Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

    I don't know what to do...PLEASE HELP!!!

    It sounds like the driver is corrupted, which you should be able to download a new one from the manufacturers web page. However, check out this forum entry from someone with similar problem that fixed it by deleting some keys.

    If that doesn't work I would run CHKDSK. Just type cmd in the run window and that will pull up a cmd window, then tpye CHKDSK. This will check your hard drive for errors and can repair things that are still readable.

      restore your cd's again and see if that helps.

        Fixed it..had to completely reboot. DAMN!
        Now gotta try to find my product Key for microsoft office and then ill be all good.
