So the story is that when I was 16 I fractured my ankle playing basketball. I got a walking cast and went through the whole process. It never seemed to have healed correctly because every since then, when I sit indian style, my ankle would sometime pop out of place and I would have to slowly move it back (this hasn't happened in a while now). About a year or so ago, I was playing basketball and rolled it again in the exact same way. It hurt for a bit but I just threw an ankle brace on for a few days and it went away.
Well, since then, it has been bothering me a little. For instance, when I work in the yard all day, it will swell and get tight and has a dull pain in it. It feels weak sometimes and I can tell that I favor it as I walk. So my wife convinced me to go to the doctor (I can't stand going to the doctor because I think most of them are full of it). I had an x-ray and a MRI done on my ankle. They called yesterday and told me that I had a deformitiy in my ankle bone and that if I wanted it fixed, I would have to go to Vanderbilt and have surgery on it.
It really doesn't bother me bad enough to have them do surgery on it...but I do want to be able to walk when I'm 60 too. What would you guys do if you were in this position? I guess I have some fear that my ankle will never be right if they operate and that it will constantly be something. I always said that I would never be cut open voluntarily.
