  • Discuss your tanning experience

Just saw a report on ABC news about tanning salons. Its a huge thing for teenage girls. They had a 17 year old who was in beauty pageants and her mom bought her her own tanning bed..well, the chick ended up with melaNOMA..
I used to love going to the tanning bed..feels good...I bought my own tanning bed...problem with me was that tanning beds made me itch to high heaven, but I still kept going...I stopped tanning beds a couple years ago and I don't itch at all anymore. I knew a chick here who tanned all the time and she got severe cancer on her face. She had skin grafts done on her face. She said it was 100% caused by tanning beds.
Im not trying to be a downer here. I just think its an important topic.

How many of you all tan and what are your thoughts about it?

Did you know that Obama is going to TAX tanning salons extra from now on? That was part of his wonderful bill

      Re: Discuss your tanning experience

My wife works at a tanning place and has for years. They go through all kinds of training that says the tanning beds do not cause cancer. I would have to get her to state the specifics because it is kind of scary how much she knows about this stuff. It is a lot more complicated than I used to think. From what she has told me, I am not worried about tanning beds at all. I may try to get her to get on here tonight and post up what she knows.

i tan not daily but fairly often. I think saying it was cause 100% by tanning beds is a complete lie. How dies she know that it wouldn't have been caused by the sun if she hadn't been tanning. Often times people that get bad sides from tanning are the ones that are tanning 2 times a day. I know a girl that use to do this she has accounts at more than one place so she could go more than one time a day. D did you use any tanning lotions. They really do help you tan faster get burnt less and feel better after you done. I liek tanning makes me feel good.

well my wife and I both tan. She has that beautiful olive complected skin that tans easy and well I'm just the poster boy of a white boy, so I need it more than she does. Due to my work schedule I need it to add color and I know its safer than going out and getting God aweful burnt outside , so I'll take the risk

Last contest I did, I didnt tan at all...I hired a back stage tanning sprayer..It cost me $100 for the entire weekend..like 5 layers of spraytan...it was the best tan onstage I ever had and I was white before they started spraying me the day before the show...the damage done by tanning beds sometimes isn't seen for 20 or more years...Ive seen chicks hit 40 thaT have tanned a lot and they look like they are 60......its one of those topics where research is found both supporting it and research showing that it is horrible for you...which studies do you believe?..In the short term, its probably all good. melanin, vitamin D, etc etc

Those women that you speak of tan religiously! If they were outside that much, they would look the same. Half my family works outside in the weather and they have weathered skin as well. Can't blame that on the tanning bed.

I think a little color in the summer looks great. The tanning beds dry my skin out so much more than the natural sun.
