  • Lift Kit for my truck

I went to the truck shop Friday and ordered a 4 inch lift, 35 inch Toyo MT tires, 18 inch XD Series wheels, MBRP turbo back 4 inch exhaust with 5 inch tip, and 3 inch tube nerf bars powder coated black. Total cost is $6,000, the parts should be in on Wednesday and my truck will be done Friday. I will post pics of before and after when it's finished. I'm pretty excited since this is my first custom job, though I'm not doing the install at least I got to choose everything I wanted. I think it's gonna look great. My truck is a 2003 F250 6.0 liter Powerstroke Fx4 Lariat, black paint with black bumpers. I am also going to be ordering a tonneau cover and billet grill. It's a lot of money but was cheaper than buying a newer truck for $30,000 or more and then having to add the extras. I will keep it for a couple more years and then buy a 2007 6.0 liter and probably sell this one to my gf's son. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting this thing back. I would have gone with a 6 inch lift and 37s but gonna be towing a boat and also my gf isn't too crazy about riding in a huge truck..lol, so I compromised with the 4 inch so she will at least ride in it. Fords sit pretty high already so it should come out looking pretty big.

looks good man. still think you should have done the 6 and 37's but you will save some money on the rubber down the road and it does make for a more friendly daily drvier sitting a bit lower. get some pics up when it's done.

Better left to the installers anyway. I put a 6" lift on my 2005 Chevy Crew Cab HD and it was a PITA!!! We had to cut and weld, etc...lucky we had a plasma cutter, but it is not an easy job.

i would recomment MT mkz's for tires they dont wear fast no noise on the road and u wont get stuck in anything i had them on my F350 and i pulled brush trucks out of the mud that were trying to get to a brush fire.

You will probably have to cut the plastic piece under your front bumper for 35's to clear with a 4" lift. It will probably rub a little on the plastic fender well liner when you turn too. I had a 06 powerstroke with 8" and 38.5's I just got rid of. What is your gear ratio? You will need to regear the front and back, if not it will be very sluggish when you take off. I had to regear mine to 4.88

I didn't have to re-gear my Crew cab chevy with the lift and 35's...must be a Ford thing...lol

there will be no need to regear with 35's. I have mine with a 10" lift and 40's and haven't regeared and it does just fine. I am going to regear but to either 4.56 or 4.3 you had way to much gear with 4.88 and 38's. My buddy has 35 on his stock gearing and it does fantastic.

Your fuel mileage must suck if u don't regear. It makes your engine woRk too hard. You need to read a differential chart. Your truck will not have near as much power at takeoff without regearing. You will notice you have to give it more gas then before

Re: Lift Kit for my truck

I am not worried about regearing or cutting out part of my fender for the tires. The shop I went to has done multiple Sema award winning trucks and has assured me I will be fine with the 4 inch. My truck already has a leveling kit and there is plenty of room for the 33s on it now, I don't see how a 4 inch lift would not provide ample clearance for 35s. I went with smaller lift for many reasons, one of them because I will be pulling a boat. The tires I went with are Toyo MTs and I have not found a single person who does not think they are a great tire. The manager of the shop showed me his on his truck with 30k miles on them and still ample tread remaining.

Also, no need for gear change for 35s. You have to be kidding me rc10j1, there are Tacomas out there with 35s and no gear change, I have 560 ft/lb of torque so I think it will handle it. It is not even necessary with 37s from what I have been told, and I just drove an 07 stock 6.0 liter with 37s that had no problem whatsoever. I do appreciate your advice but I think I will be fine.

I'll post picks when its done. I take it in today and get it back Friday.

Not on mine. The gas mileage didn't suffer at all when I went to the bigger tires. Mine was a 6.0 gas burner, so I don't know if that made any difference, but it would get down out of the hole!

Thanks guys. Yeah, the girlfriend is only 5'-3" and not a fan of really big trucks, though she does like mine at its current height.

The Toyos are great from everything I've heard. Currently I have BFG All Terrain but want a more aggressive look. I was choosing between BFG, Mickey Thompson, and Toyo and went with the Toyo MT which ran $320 per tire.
