IMHO if you want to ****, text, drink, eat or anything else fine by me. But if you cause problems you should be 100% responsible not others, your license should be taken period, not reinstated because you ****ed up and need to get to work, not the rest of the drivers problem, you are. If we treated driving in this manner the accidents, insurance claims and deaths would be reduced greatly, people would know where the line is. Currently the line is moved daily to accommodate the weakest link, fines are imposed and the local community sees a benefit, and the bad driving continues.

Well, I was going to say that I disagree with this law just to stir the pot and start some shyte because everybody says they agree with it, but reading over Cytec's post I have to be serious. Thanks for ruining it for me Cytec! So, in response, sure Cytec, it's fine by you until you're DEAD! You say that if you cause problems you should be 100% responsible not others, well tell that to the minivan full of kids coming home from their soccer game that are now dead because somebody couldn't wait to get to a red light or pull over to make that text. Now, being the Libertarian that I am, I'm pretty open and lenient when it comes to law making, but when it comes to saving lives and protecting innocent people from others, there has to be something in place. Now, I have and do text while driving, and a law is really just a deterrent, it's not going to stop it from happening, but maybe it will have a good impact, and I may be inclined to be more conservative about texting while I'm driving.

Here is a perfect example of what I am saying. The person that runs through the light and kills your kids will pay the fine and still run the light. So feel safer that the driver not running the red light is fined for being on the phone. But to me that is just stupid.

I didnt mean to make light of a serious situation. I DON"T condone screwing or texting while driving. In retrospect, its sort of funny the stupid shit we did when we were young. Doesnt make it ok, though.

Texting and driving is one of many careless and stupid things people do with a car. People speed through residential areas, run stop signs, change lanes without looking, etc. all the while endangering innocent people.

Guilty as charged! I try not to wait until I'm at a stop. The worst thing is that I know the buttons on my phone, so I can text without looking at my phone. I know it's dangerous and am really trying to quit cold turkey! :-)

I don't condone it either, but making a law for everything is insane, we have laws that cover it and have had them. What is careless and reckless to extreme for talking on the phone too bad don't weave on the road and text, problem solved. The liberal above me wants a law for everything, because he will be safer, LOL.

Re: NEW LAW: NO texting and driving

Cytec, the point is that texting is a distraction and if you take away that distraction the roads are that much safer. It's pretty simple really.

yea...i think it should be against the law...i cant stand riding down the road and the person next to me is focusing more on driving than texting...and i dont really want to get my shyt hit befor ehe/she gets a fine!! i'm NOT for more laws...if it was up to me, while we add that one, there's plenty of stupid ones that can be removed!!!

Yes but lets say for a minute that the cops actually start their day looking for people who cant drive. Rather than getting as many tickets wrote with the least amount of paperwork. Your driver next to you would have been weeded out long time before you saw them and have a reckless to show to friends and neighbors. The communities by me write bullshit fines for cell use, which does not raise insurance or points, so again what does this law do?

And you're absolutely right in that, however, there is a small percentage of people that follow laws regardless of how vigorously they're enforced. I agree that it's not going to make a huge impact, but why not have it on the books? We have a reason why it should be on the books, now give me a reason why it shouldn't.

Because they can follow the laws already there which says you must have your vehicle under control. I'm going to get this ticket for answering my cell in a control manner, or at a red light and saying yep, OK, 5 min away click, by some cop that happens to see me. Did he improve safety? NO! It really pisses me off that I have to constantly make adjustments to my life because some ****in tool cannot drive. We need to stop punishing those that are responsible and demand LE do something real for once. Personally I will hit some dumb ass texting and interfering with me, but that is just me.

                                This is just another tax!
