In the was category I nominate Trip. Until my nerve damage in my left arm played daily for years. Now I cannot.

All nominee's are great, have heard everyone, and have an album or CD or each. Goliath made good point, Hendrix is greatness, he was sloppy. If you hear unrecorded versions of almost any guitarist by and large they are atrocious to what was finally layed down, even Eddie Van Halen.

I like Vaugn and Clapton, because live these boys are extremely consistent in playing for hours at a high level, and on one of those night of nights when playing is effortless, these boys take it to another level. Santanna can do this to.

Randy Rhodes rest in peace, never got to experience his full brillance, he was on the same path.

Damn, I think about playing everyday and can't. Live goes on.

Trip - feel for you. Had a freind of mine same thing. Could play as good or better than Steve Howe of Yes when they were big. No more. What always amazed me was the passion and intensity of any of these guys. It was/is their life. Incredible to have that drive and feeling.

#1 would have to be SRV
          #2 probably Eddie Van Halen
          #3 Eric Clapton
I'm surprised no one mentioned Billy Gibbons. He's easily in the top ten. Santana is good I'd say some where between 5 and 10. Any one notice there are not a lot of young talented guitarist. Most of the names we have mentioned have been at it for 20-30 years.

            Morgan,

Yes, you are correct. Lived and breathed it for over 20 years, woke up one day and it was all over, lifting injury actually. I was at my peak. It was like experiencing a major death in family, plus on top of that had too deal with fact might be permanently disabled for life. Saw over 13 doctors in four years. It was quite a ride in ways. The only thing I had left to use was my mind. thank god, that didn't let me down.

Gibbons smokes, Tres Hombres runs through my veins, the reason I began to play.

Trip - you teach? I had my son down at one of the guitar shops and the older guys down there are so great with the kids. Like I said - it's that passion and drive. Pass it on if you can. So sorry for ya.

                  Morgan,

This thread is wild for me. I woke up this week and I said to myself, "I got tons of G-stuff sitting around, chords, strings, teaching video's performance videos gig bags pedals.....and I would just like to give them away to anyone who would use them"----Now of course I didn't go as far to say, I'm giving away my 1973 hot-rodded 100 watt marshal head or my beloved 1962 re-issue Les Paul, yet I know there is someone out that that could use this stuff.

So, if anyone is interested PM me, be happy to send it to a future budding star.

I am a teacher now. Can't music though, it is a visual and auditory learning experience, and since I can't show, pretty frustrating deal.

Fluid - you're too much man, LMAO. Trip - a very generous and gracious offer. I would but right now my son is 10 and still not exactly sure if it's the right thing for him. The joys of parenthood. The people on this board are too much. I can't believe you would make that offer. Props to you!

                              Pit and Fluid,

Very cool. You guys will shoot me on this one.

Gave away, yes, a 76 Amercan Strat, that I customized from a three bolt neck to four, had jumbo threads, and gold hardware, to a friends 10 year old kid.

Got the Leslie Paul, which was my main performing axe 80% of time. Also have a beautiful, although what guitar isn't, 98 American Telecaster Tobacco Sunburst Standard.

Just picked up a little Fender Champ Tube Amp, in the hopes.

Have had so many other axes over years hard to count, most would last two years.

Never ever though did have an acoustic that was warm and felt velvety and buttery in my hands. Know they are out their, just couldn't see parting with 5k.

                              Oh well, I wanna rock.
