i always get political emails from my dad and one lately is in reference to all senators, representatives dont pay into social security and that when they retire from office WE continue to pay their annual salary for rest of their lives...i havent researched it much yet but i would believe that those greedy bastards are set up this way. i guess people are trying to get this policy changed, but needs more people to know about it

If you are in for 6 or more years you'll get a government pension. Yes, you are right, congress excluded themselves from the social security system and everone else was forced into it (with the exception of the railroad workers who at the time were a powerful force).A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -Thomas Jefferson

Anybody know if it was a democratic congress that passed such a bill?
The reason I ask is my father-in-law is a democrat, and he works for the rail-road. Lucky son-of-a-gun retires next year, but anyway, I've always wondered why he chose the democratic party. His father also retired from the rail-road. Which I figured his father was probably a dem, so my father-in-law, like most folks, just follow in ole dad's footsteps. Back in his father's days, though, the democratic party had some dignity.

Railroad workers don't pay into Social Security? Yet they receive SS benefits?..or pension that's paid by tax dollars?
