Re: Ever have a best friend die

yeah man. I lost 2 in 1. I learned my older brother by 3yrs was my best friend by a long shot. He was killed at only 26yrs old on his bike.(GSXR-750)
We grew up doing all the shyt very best friends do. We even dreamed the same thing sometimes. We did that all our lives. I felt half of me go when he left. I was outta-whack for a couple years. Not like visibly screwed up, I just had to figure out how to live without him here...without my brother. my big bro.
By the time we were adults. I had caught up with him in height. When we were out at the clubs, people thought we were twins. we got that shyt all the time.
He was something. We were something. Man at the stories I could tell...alot of people have some crazy stories with my brother. He had the 2nd largest funeral only to a state governor that was buried at the same funeral home lots. which is the largest funeral place in town. Same one that took care of my 2nd daughter. and that's another story...and great loss.

I've had several friends over the years pass away. It's always hard to lose someone you are close too. It seems like it harder when they are so young. My senior year of high school I lost a friend who was in his freshman year of college. He and his roommate were swimming in a lake. He made it to shore, but his roommate went under water and was having trouble. I don't remember what happened now, but he went back in and saved his roommate. He drown.

Then my freshman year of college, a long time friend that I grew up with went to a different college out of state. She and two others were in a corvette. The driver was speeding and ran a stop sign. They hit a school bus and it killed all three of them. I'm not sure if any of the kids on the bus were injured, but it was an awful wreck.

Their have been others, but those really hit the hardest because we were so young when it happened.

My brother died unexpectadely in 1994. I dont remember any of it. I remember receiving a call at work but after that, its all gone. The rest is so gone that I have no recall of a funeral or anything. I know I didnt drink. very strange and honestly, I dont want to remember.

Re: Ever have a best friend die

^^Funny how our minds work in protecting us from this sort of thing. I have lost friends, older family members, but I think the hardest thing I have ever had to over come in life was loosing my baby sister. That was a rough one. She was only 16, was having problems with my parents, wanted to come and stay with me, but my Mother had asked me to tell her no, thinking it may help her in some stupid strange way! I think that has eaten at me the worst, I always wonder what if! Anyway she took her own life, never had a chance to see what a wonderful life she could have had.
Funny that Dzone said something about not remembering, there's so much about what happened I don't recall either.

Re: Ever have a best friend die

Our brains remove the rough emotional edges from our memories. It allows us to move on with our lives. If you lose the ability to do this vital function, the result is post traumatic stress disorder...PTSD.
As we remember a past trauma...the memory is cushioned by this function of the sub- concious brain performed during our REM sleep.
and yes I have lost several friends along the way...
                  many good friends and comrades.

                  I miss them all.

Re: Ever have a best friend die

Maybe not a best friend but a former co-worker/LE officer that I'd become fairly close to before I moved to California.

Alot of my fellow officers with whom I worked and I had noticed that alot of guys who were in the police academy with us and were working in different divisions would never acknowledge us if we'd ever see them on the streets. Sometime in 1997, one of those guys was working police security at my part time job (Eckerd Drugs) and together (me as a store clerk with my badge around my neck) caught alot of shoplifters and people trying to cheat the store with phony refunds. Well, I moved from New Orleans in June, 1999, but would often go to the New Orleans newspaper or news channel online to keep up with what's happening back home.

About a month ago, I was reading about a fallen NOPD officer. The poor woman was gunned down while serving a supena to a known mental perpetrator and sadly, it was with her own gun. She'd joined the force years after I had left so I didn't quite know her personally. However, the website mentioned that it was the latest police murder in the past two years. So out of curiosity, I researched back 2 years to see if I had known that NOPD officer. And it was my buddy, Dukes. I was in major shock because this guy was in such great shape that you'd think he was a competitive bodybuilder. The women at Eckerd all drooled over the guy. Well from what I read, he was killed during a home invasion. His wife was shot and only received minor injuries. Of course, my 1st thought was that it may have been a set up by his wife but after thorough investigation, it turned out a legit matter. Wrong place, wrong time, I guess. The only good news, if you will, was that he managed to pull his weapon and shoot one of the invaders but I'm not sure how bad they were hit.

Yes, had very close friend in college shoot himself. Had a good friend about 10 years ago who was a cop who shoot himself in the living room in front of his family. That suicide crap is crazy man. Had a collegue who was drinking heavily and going thru a divorce, shot himself thru the mouth in his office. WTF? during the funeral some crazy fuker was balling his eyes out and reached into the casket and picked up the corpse and was huggin it. The funeral guy ran over to put the back of the corpses head back together. That was one of the most crazy fukin things I ever

Re: Ever have a best friend die

I lost a few friends to suicides over girlfriends, some in accidents, but by far worse was loosing my younger brother (best friend) to diabetes, it killed me to see my mom hurt and him all hooked up to wires and tubes like me back when I was hanging on. I promised I wasn't going to leave him there and that soon as he got a lil better I was going to bring him home..he died from staph three days later.
