Well, I am fed up of these TV ads on tv bullshitting people on the Canadian healthcare system and my pride is taking a toll. Since my birth I was under an universal healthcare system that treated me very well, that saved my mom, aunt and many members of the family.

I can tell you that everything you heard about MY system is false and propaganda that is dirty.

Canada Health Plan May Deny 6,000 Surgeries

Vancouver, Canada’s health authority is mulling skipping over more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to close a $200 million budget shortfall, according to a report in the Vancouver Sun.
The excised procedures would include a host of neurosurgeries, treatment for vascular diseases and other medically necessary procedures -- leaving patients waiting long periods of time for their backordered operations, said Canadian health critic Adrian Dix.
Dix pointed to a Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document he said outlined the cuts.
“This hasn’t been announced by the health authority … but these cuts are coming,” Dix said, citing figures he gleaned from an unpublished executive summary of “proposed VCH surgical reductions.”
The health authority confirmed the document is genuine, but said it represents ideas only. It is a planning document. It has not been approved or implemented,” said spokeswoman Anna Marie D’Angelo.
Canada's national health insurance program, often referred to as "Medicare,” is theoretically designed to ensure that all residents have reasonable access to medically necessary hospital and physician services -- on a prepaid basis.
Instead of having a single national plan, Canada has a national program that is composed of 13 interlocking provincial and territorial health insurance plans, all framed by the Canada Health Act (CHA).
Roles and responsibilities for Canada's health care system are shared between the federal and provincial-territorial governments. Under CHA, criteria and conditions are specified that must be satisfied by the provincial and territorial health care insurance plans in order for them to qualify for their full share of the federal cash contribution.
Recently, the new president of the Canadian Medical Association said Canada’s health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.
Dr. Anne Doig argued that patients are getting less than optimal care.
"We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," she told The Canadian Press.
On the Vancouver front, Dr. Brian Brodie, president of the BC Medical Association, called the proposed surgical cuts “a nightmare,” according to the Vancouver Sun. “Why would you begin your cost-cutting measures on medically necessary surgery? I just can’t think of a worse place,” he said.
According to the leaked document, Vancouver Coastal wants to close nearly a quarter of its operating rooms starting in September and to cut 6,250 surgeries. As many of 112 full-time jobs — including 13 anesthesiologist positions — would be affected by the reductions, the document indicates.
“Clearly this will impact the capacity of the health-care system to provide care, not just now but in the future,” Dix said.

all i know is from people i've worked with, that are canadfian. some were born here and some were born there, and like any other subject, their opinions very. i know 2 that moved to canada after getting married and 1 HATES the health care (yes...he's needed it and came to detroit for his care instead) and the other says "it fine". the canadians i know that grew up there most say its fine...one guy HATED IT...claims it cost him a brother... i'm not a supporter of it. if canadians are happy with it, fine...i'm not bashing canadians, but i dont want it...and i'm one of the millions without ANY health care

Well before the 1970's we had no universal healthcare, my grand father had cancer due to Albestos, in the 1960's it was costing my grand mother 2000$ A MONTH in cares, they had a business she was working night and day, the store, the delivery business she took people in, some workers from factories around to sleep in, she was able to pay for it, no one did. But my grand pa died anyway, do you know how much money that was.

You american pay the same as us as taxes, 40%, so from january to april we work to pay uncle sam or cousin canuck, weird we pay the same and we have healthcare!

Universal healthcare is a right an universal right to every citizen, health it is!

so ASK ME question I dont want to hear your right wing conservative redneck ideas.

i only ask this becouse what i've been told by people that live in canada bro...no obama bashing....just an honest question.

We have one of the best system in the world, now it depends on the province since, every province have full authority over its healthcares.

Now I am talking about Quebec, ours doctors most of them come from Laval University, mcgill and U de montreal, three world known universities in the world. Montreal and Mcgill are IVY league class school.

We had alot of doctors who moved to the US, but most are coming back since the risk and cost of being a pratician in the US are enormous, being a doctor in the US is like having a business, unlike here.

Yes cutting edge, YOU WILL not see a difference between a private hospital in the US compared to a hospital here.

so it's quite possible that the area of windsor just suks? thats where the people i know live...they're not too fond of the program there. so, it would also be advised that this admin would have to look into a specific provence of canada? like the canadian health care program very well could be dogshyt, but the Quabec, (sorry sp?), health care program is the best in the world?

on another note...aint quabec trying to break off from canada? seems to me i remember quabec being somewhat of an elitest, no? couldnt it just be that you feel, like a majority of people from quabec, that your shyt dont stink (which i perfectly understand becouse my shyt, in fact, does not stink...you can ask my youngest son) and you feel that just by the sheer fact that its a quabec health insurance program, so it must be the best in the world, becouse quabec is the best in the world? Canada is number 3 in the ranking by the OCDE just after Australia

the US have the highest infantile mortality rate in the western world, the US is number 1 in responsivenesss to give treatment but is number 37 in EFFICIENCY, spot number one is giving to France Canada ranks number 30th In the US, only 40 percent of americans are sastified with their system unlike JApan who has a 97% approval rate.

The US ranks 26th among Industrial nation for infant mortality rates.

The US ranks 24th in disability adjustment life expectancy

The US ranks 15th in the world for overall attainment

The US has the most expensive healthcare in the world because of the sum spent on private insurances.

Ranks 55th spot on fairness, Canada ranks 17, number 1 spot is luxembourg (ok it is like comparing orange vs apples if we take Lux vs US)

As for Quebec, my shit smells like Vanilla!

I will put that very easilly, take the South and the North, confederate versus yankee, it is about the same in Quebec, french Canadian against a country that tried to assimilate and destroy us., but thats another story.

So, the US ranks number 1 in the process of patient, and how fast the treatment are giving to patients, but the rest you are far far away. But it was proven that there are a world of difference in treatment and responsiveness toward people with insurance toward people with no insurance.

1. Cut the outrageous wins that people can get from liability lawsuits. These lawsuits and the threat of them force doctors to insure themselves at great cost — and they force doctor’s prices up. $100 billion could be saved in defensive medicine costs if we eradicate those outrageous lawsuit wins which only pad the wallets of trial lawyers.
2. Fix Medicare fraud. Whereas in private health care, the insurance companies can go after fraudulent cases and keep such lawsuits down, this is not so with Medicare, and thus the losses from fraudulent lawsuits there are high. Up to $60 to $120 billion can be saved if we could fix Medicare fraud.
3. Get small business health care reform. Small businesses have a hard time providing health care to employees. Let small businesses band together and pool their resources and lower their risks.TORT REFORM
4. Let insurance companies sell their health insurance across state lines in the same way that life and car insurers do, giving people a better selection. The competition will drive prices down.
5. Have health savings account reforms. People should be able to pay their premiums from their savings accounts.
6. Individuals should have the same kind of tax deduction as businesses do.
