  • purpose of round tips on levers

Now that we have so many members with bikes. And some real badass machines at that, I thought I'd address something that I saw someone post a few weeks ago.
Someone mentioned that the little round tip broke off a lever or something, and that they didn't see any reason for it anyway. Those do have a pretty important purpose. Those round bulbs instead of coming to a point on the tip is to keep them from going through your hand or something in a crash.
So, it's good to get that replaced. I know allot of the show bikes have pointy levers and shyt, but you won't see those on the track. The stunters even make sure they have them on their little rear hand brakes.
Blunt tips instead of points can mean the difference of being impaled, or just bruised or broken.

I put those break away levers on my boys Blaster so I didn't have to replace them as often

I thought of those while i wrote this thread, and was gonna add that those are just so the rider can still make it through the race. Just the tips break away leaving the lever still functional for the rest of the race instead of the whole lever gettting tweaked out of commission. They have to have tips to start the race though.
It's just a safety feature. Anything can happen in a crash. Ya never know what's gonna land where, and what appendage might be in the way.

Re: purpose of round tips on levers

Mine broke off a couple weeks back - I roughed up the end an put some epoxy on it to make it "round" again.
It's not as pretty but it still serve the fuction and it's not sharp - just a bit shortened.

I really like the Renthal pieces - those look like they make sense.
