a little 4th of july party tonight

So we go to my buddies house who has all the famalies over and the kids play and everyone drinks and we all have fun talk about old times . I grew up with these people as kids and now we are all adults. My point is after about 2 hours I want to leave i'm bored,see I dont drink anymore almost 4 years and its not that i'm not comfortable or anything because theres booze around thats not it by no means I'm just bored because after a few hours everyone is all fuked up and sloppy talking and then doing stupid shit and being careless with the fire works and thats not me anynore I guess. Is this normal. I love my buddies and wll always have there backs if they needed me but man now I know how my wife felt for 17yrs of being with me drinking and she always used to tell me she never had fun because she didnt drink and she was bored and I would always ask her why. Now I know why .

yep. That's completely normal. I couldn't be around a bunch of my old friends getting sloppy with my family, and me sober. It wouldn't be fun at all. That's the same reason why, back in the day, my wife didn't care to go to those parties either.
I hardly drink anymore also. I'll have a drink if me and the wife have a date night. I'll also have a few if I, by myself, go to a small get together with a few of my true friends, which happens maybe once or twice a year. I do not care to get smashed, at all, like I used to though. I've maybe got a drunk buzz once or twice in the last 5yrs. I'm not against drinking, or anything like that. I just realized one day, almost 5 yrs ago, that I hadn't bought any beer in about 6 months. And I haven't really enjoyed drinking since. I can still be around my friends drinking because they keep their composure. Allot of them are single, so they have to remain cool,lol. What female wants their date to act the jackass, know what I mean?

I know the type you're talking about though. The family guys that probably haven't partied in a while with everybody, so they act a fool. Yeah, that's the one's that shouldn't get invited so the get together remains a safe and fun environment for the kids.

I understand where you are coming from! I was a HUGE drinker in college, to the point my friends were very concerned about me. I slowed down alot with my drinking and then completely stopped when I was trying to have kids right around 30. I didnt touch alcohol again, until I was maybe 38 or so ( I am almost 41) and now, I can only have a few drinks tops, and thats enough.

First, I am usually buzzed just off a couple of drinks and second, I hate the feeling of being drunk and hungover and acting stupid.

But, I went to a party last year with all my old college friends, most of them still drink ALOT, and boy I felt like the outcast. I was so embarrassed to be around them, they were all acting like idiots, and all I could think about was that was ME, 20 years prior.

But as the previous poster said, you grew up, so did I, but unfortunately not all our friends did

It's totally normal - heck I still like to tie one on every now and then but I prefer not to be around my "friends" when doing so.
In fact - I find I have so little in common with 99% of them I don't care to hang around them at all.

Honestly - I didn't even go to any parties this weekend because of that fact alone - I have nothing to talk to them about except maybe work. And I REALLY, REALLY hate talking about work.
I'd have rather tied one on here at home with the dogs...

Even my very, very good friends and I don't get together much becasue we live different lives. Add in the drinking and it's just a pain in the ass to act like you even care and I'm not that good an actor so i just stay away to avoid confrontation.

So it can be a lot of things...either "growing up" or simply wanting to do your own thing.

Either way - I think we can all understand and it's just what happens.

yea...i'd say it's normal, but it never bothered me....i can see how it bothers others. i had quit for 3 yrs...not a drop, but my cousin (who i'm closer too than my brothers) drinks professionaly, lol...never bothered me. now that i have a couple here and there, i'll have 2-3 with him, but i dont get trashed...

yeah man. you've grown up, and really just enjoy your own thing with your family. Perfectly normal. That's me. I'd rather just have fun with my family, and another couple people or family, that I, or we, have totally orchestrated. It's just much more comfortable in a controlled environment than a cookout with a keg where everyone is getting smashed and starting to shoot bottle rockets and mortars at each other.

It's normal. You're a father that has your family's fun and safety at top of mind 100%. You're much more comfortable in a situation that you know is within your total control, and your family's content and happy. Any uncomfortable situation for your family is not good for you either, so you're ready to get them back to an environment that you have full control of.

You've just grown into a great father and husband. It's a beautiful ting.

yea, boo's like that...she'll even have a drink or 2 but she dont get hammered. once others get too buzzed, she dont like to be around them and she gets bored. i dont get bored around people...drunk or not, i'm a people person....i can have fun just fukin with them

All my old buddies drink alot and think that I'm nuts for not drinking with them now. I don't have the drama in my life that drinking brings and I don't have to call up in the morning and apoligize for anything. I usually go to a party, eat the food and then bail so I can spend time with my family. Once in awhile I'll stay just to see if any of the fake titties are going to fall out of their shirts, or watch wifes get all in a huff when the old man starts talkin' up some little sweet thang but I'm with you on 2 hours and bored/ out.
