Savings Bonds

Does anyone know anything about them? Or even a site I can go to? My son has had them for 20 years and I never did anything with them. They probably aren't worth nothing. Any help will be most appreciated.

If hes had them for 20 years I'm sure they are fully matured. go cash em in. I cashed mine in when I turned 18.

don't cash them wait until you actually need them for something. they continue to grow interest until the day you cash them

seriously? they keep going up? thats what i was hoping. (and what makes you think i dont "actuall need them for something" now!!!! i sell cars remember? i'm sure there's a bill somewhere i'm neglecting!!). how do i find there value?

ALL bonds stop earning interest after 30 years. So holding a bond for more than 30 years will do you no good. Series E and EE bonds have a guaranteed maturity (Meaning you will get the full face value) after 20 years. It wasn't always that way though. Depending on when the bonds were bought, it might have a 17 year maturity.
Series I and H bonds have a 20 year maturity as well, but can continue to earn interest another 10 years after maturity. (30 years total)

yep!!!! I do believe at some time they stop growing interest- so I would check it out. You can take it to your local bank and get all that info- are those the old EE bonds?

Yes they are the EE series. So basically they are only worth face value? I'll check that site out.

have them checked- I don't recall the maturity on them. Keep in mind, when purchased- you only paid 1/2 of face value- so they are worth more than what was paid, but I sure thought they continue to gain interest for some time- again, take them to your bank and check to be sure

I just checked and interest ceases after 30 years. They are worth just a little more than what the face value says. I realize now that when purchased it was only for half the price.

The wife brought home a nice little surprise this week that she'd forgotten about like that. So, of course, we're waiting on the check.

I forget what it is that she had, but it was not a good thing. It wasn't a savings bond. Some type of CD I think.

But hell's yeah to y'all's chunka change! Spend that boy's money,lol
