If you are having trouble staying logged in when navigating between forums/topics/etc., you need to reset your session cookie. Go into your browser and delete any cookie for the site them log back in. This should fix the login issue.

The crazy part is that I was hoping that I could take this week off, but it turns out that I'm going to be pretty busy just catching up on all the stuff I've let slide over the past few months.
congrats on the big risk! I commend you in this time we're in to take it. I'm sure you've weighed the pro & cons and came to a solid concusion of the better choice. You seem like one that doesn't take a step without really thinking it through.
