Quite a few people, right after the finish of a project we were working on that lasted nearly two years. Even one of the guys with more seniority than me got laid off then rehired.
They can't lay me off because I'm the fire alarm system expert - I'm the only one who does the routine system tests for the clients.... -

And I still do. In fact, a few of the company's clients have told me to let them know if I leave them, they said they will follow me to whoever I'm working for because of the great service I've given them over the years.Originally posted by skinnyman View Post

Yep, I have seen it twice this year. Both times my boss called me in his office and said that the reason they kept me there both times was b/c of attitude and work ethic. The Vice President even fired his own nephew. Pretty, scary. Both guys who sit next to me got canned and I heard one of the vp's come to both of their offices and say, "come into my office we need to talk and next thing they were packing their shiot".

I have had to lay off several employess over the past few years. Mostly due to attitude or non-work ethic, even had one that was drug related. We now have one more that will be laid off within the next few weeks.
Pity, he has been there over 30 years. It is not because of his work ethic or anything like that. It's just taht department has been slowing down. Thankfully I am not the one that has to tell him.
Daved150, I have been at the same job for 33 years and have never been laid off. I have continually learned more and more of all aspects of the business. As of now, I manage 2 of the 3 divisions our company.
Sad thing is no one wants to take the initive to learn haow to do more things for the company.Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

First I was one of the many who lost their jobs in a merger during '90s but this past year I survived a layoff and a merger. I feel very fortunate that I got to keep my job.
Then I quit... I just started my own marketing consulting business. Thursday was my last day at work. I'm just glad it was by my own choice.Comment
