    Re: FORD VS. CHEVY

I stand by what I say. I was a live and driving, tearing the hell out of those cars back then. I will agree with you the Ford 1970 mach 1 with a 351 cleveland was nice. The fastest car I owned was a stock, 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 4 speed. But back in the early 70s, the tail end of the muscle car days, I would have went Chevy over Ford. The Chevy 302, 327 and 396 was one bad ass motor.

ok...ford gt (previouslt gt40) will KILL a vette
and the 7.3 powerstroke is still, and will always be, the best passenger diesel truck engine on the road!!! just ask a real mechanic!

oh...and when they quit making the camaro becouse it STILL cant compete with the stang...remember this conversation

this is the most uninformed piece of information i have ever seen in my life. Aparently you have never owned a ls motor or done research on them. If you had you would realize there are people abusing these cars on nitrous and superchargers up into the 200k range. Thats some pretty good life for a car that see's high hp. Also there has been documented cars with 400k+ and a vette that rolled a million miles on the stock motor.

i'll agree with james that they (ls engines) are a pretty good engine. i dont think the big diff is in the engines like it used too. dont get me wrong, there is differences, but on the large scale, those differences dont really mean shyt.
for instance. i will admit that the stock camaro will CRUSH a stock mustang. it's ALWAYS been that way. sooo...why does the mustang KILL the camaro in sales? easy....the people who buy these cars NEW are older folks...reliving a time in their life when the american muscle car ruled!! that time, that love, has been trickled down from father to son and will continue to be passed on. the people who can afford these cars new, for the most part, aint gonna be drag racing on friday night!!! aint gonna have to worry about putting your "pink slip on the line" for a saturday night race after the big game!!! so, for thousand of dollars less you can buy an original american muscle car!!! v-8 power!! dual exhaust growl!!! and, the old men can get their wood on buy ripping the tires in an empty parking lot....
thats why the camaro, probobly, wont make it again. gm just dont get it. the people who want all out balls to the wall speed...buy the vette. you want an american icon? v-8 power in a daily driver that dont break the bank? buy mustang! there's little room for the camaro

dave thats a very good point but also ford has pushed the v6 mustang at such a cheap price for so long and for some reason young girls seem to love v6 mustangs and because they don't cost that much their parents buy them for them. I hate the fact that they even make a v6 mustang but it does creat a lot of revenue for ford. all around ford is a very good vehicle manufacturer.

and i'll let you in on a secret.....(fords toying with the idea of making the mustang STANDARD with the same 3.5 v6 thats going into the taurus sho...shhhh its about a 350hp twin turbo engine...dont tell gm)

well, there's no question its gonna be optional. they are even toying with it being an optional awd! i dont think they should make it standard!! i think they have a winning formula the way it is! also, you can take the 4.0 v-6, add a twin turbo and it cranks it up to 350hp!! a twin turbo unit is about 900 bucks!! thats why gm gets it ass whipped.

ok i know dodge is not on the list, lol, but i have a 07 duramax, for a work truck, and i own a 07 dodge cummins...the cummins will out pull the duramax hands down and get 2-3 miles per gallon beter while pulling...i have tested this numerous times pulling the same loads with both trucks...not even close on the steep grades.....empty(no load) they run pretty close....the reason i like the cummins is it is a simple motoer...samr setup as a semi uses....not alot of moving parts in the engine....diesels are meant to be in lines....not v-8's....dont see many v-8's in big rigs do you? The powerstroke is my least favorite engine...they are noisy, and have a very hard time starting in the winter...if you dont plug them in...good luck starting them in cold weather...my 2 diesels start everytime...even when it is below 0.....

PLUG THEM IN??? dude...they made them after the 1980's ya know? they (ford) like, kept making and developing them!!! i drove powerstrokes for over 10 years...and, sence 2001 i've been in michigan where its known to snow a little. we get MONTHS that it's below zero!!..in 2005-2006 we had one of the coldest winters ever and i was driving a 2004 f350 1ton crewcab, turbo diesel, 4x4, king ranch and NEVER had the slightest prob with starting...dude...it never even crossed my mind that i might have a prob!!! i've never even heard of anyone having a problem with starting it in the winter...regardless...people have different experiences with the different manufactures. it's gonna be a shame to see anyof them go

                        Re: FORD VS. CHEVY

and the reason the Camaros and vette owners are left scartching their heads at the other end of the quarter mile is because no make benefits from cheap bolt-ons like a Ford does. Hence the guy with the $55,000 Z06 that paid $2500 for a cat-back system pulling consistant 12s, and the guy in the $30,000 '03 Cobra with $350 in exhaust(which got more than just cat-back) and a $15 blower pulley pullin low 11s. oh, and nevermind the $169 gear swap.

What's it take to get one of those "torque tubes" modded to put torque to the ground better? I remember before the torque tube came into the picture, a friend of mine threw down some ducks for a gear swap in his vette. That thing didn't like the weekly "run what you brung" either. Those latest model camaros were fast though. What was it?..2002? My nieghbor in S.C. had a '02 camaro that would go. It held up pass after pass. I couldn't keep up with it, but it couldn't keep up with my friend's '01 Cobra.

But the verbal Ford vs Chevy battle goes on, and will for ages. I enjoyed the days at the track. The bs stops. I watched a F-150 beat a Z-06 3 times in a row. 3 & out. That F-150 was a Lightning, but still. That's a truck.

                        and the debate goes on...

Anyone getting 550hp out of a 281ci, knows they have something that no-one can fuk with. and that being the modular engine design.

naaa...it's not out of place. thats the other prob that the camaro has. i can buy a gt stang for about 8k cheaper than a z-28 and for 3k i can TRASH that z and put 5k in my poket!!!! shyt...throw another 2 of that 5 at it and i'll trash a vette!

there never was a production model mustang that could do what a production model vette could do. At least not to my knowledge. Perhaps a dodge viper could be arguably the top american production sports car. I dunno. I'll take the vette.
