Like I said before, France fought WWII harder, killed more ****'s and lost more of it's own people/property than the US did on a major scale.

The french are made fun of by historians for a reason.

They were only trying to solve the conflict without going to war and they thought that if they let ****** have some of what he wanted so that he could "unite" all of the Germans then he would stop trying to take over everything, and there would be no more conflict.

I believe chemical weapons are considered weapons of mass destruction, and in any event, are banned by the Geneva Convention.

I also believe Chirac said that if Iraqi uses such weapons, France would step in with support. Honestly, France is simply making a futile attempt to become relevant in global politics. They are, and have been for sometime, irrelevant. This allows them to save face, as there is a very high percentage that Saddam does posses these weapons (I doubt even the French would deny this privately), and will use these weapons against the United States and his own people in an attempt to save his skin. So, once he does, France will come on-board saying we want to be a part. In addition, France also has a lot to lose if America overthrows the regime. France currently has a huge contract to rebuild the Iraqi phone system. They also have very favorable contracts in place with the petroleum companies in Iraq. It is in Frances best interest to protect these interests without regime change, and have the UN lift sanctions. Because once business as usual occurs in Iraq, France can reap the benefits of these contracts. Finally, look at the Iraqi airforce. It is full of Migs and Mirages. The Iraqi army is supplied with Russian and French arms, and it does not look good on the global arms market when your equipment is being obliterated, which exactly what is going to happen.

I personally feel France is a nonfactor, and has been for many years. They did nothing in Bosnia. Nothing in Rwanda. We went against the UN and EU countries in Bosnia, and we should have done something in Rwanda. No country “owes” any country anything, but if you want to be a global factor, you need to act in times of crisis, and France couldn’t and wouldn’t do that when there were problems in their backyard (i.e., Bosnia).

I am generally not pro-war, but in this case, it is time to put up or shut up- simple as that. 9/11 changed the geopolitical landscape, and in particular, the way the US will conduct itself from now on. No more rhetoric, no more posturing. Good or bad, the way the US deals with other nations has been changed for ever.

BUT! If France were to join with ****** (instead of fight) or just gave up and were taken, that would have made ******'s position that much stronger with that many fewer enemies.
