  • my dog's hips are giving her problems

man, it sucks. Our mut dog, Gracie, is 8...I think. Not that old really. She might only be 7, but she just doesn't feel good. My wife was telling me that she's been getting worse. Growling at our other dog if he even walks in the room when she goes back there to lay down. I got to hear her first hand the other night. I hate that. She's getting where she has to really struggle to get her hind-end off the ground. We give her Alieve, and it helps. I just wonder how long she can go like this. It would be nice if it would stop progressively getting worse. My wife wants to get a German Shepard and I've told her that they have hip problems sometimes. But, out of 4 or 5 that I had growing up, I only remember 1 that had that problem. ya never know. Muts usually have nothing wrong with them. My little full breed used to have allergies, and this and that, but Gracie...not a problem. House broke in 24hrs. literally. It took me 5 months to get my 15lb terrier to quit shyttin and pissin in the house. He's smart. Unbelievable personality. He's like a human. He knew he was doing wrong, and would try and hide it. He's his own little man. He's 10yrs old, and the only thing wrong with him still is he suffers from short-man's syndrom. yep...he's a killer. He'd be scary if he were 100lbs heavier.

But, I hope my Gracie girl carries on with us for a while. Of course, it hurts to see her in pain though. I need to get her some doggy pain killers. Just load her up for the rest of her years. what do ya do?...ya know?

I had to put my female Rotti down a few years back due to bad hips. Large breed dogs are more prone to have this issue- its just something that goes along with large breeds

I tried pain killers as well, but the reality is when their hips get to the point they have trouble getting up to eat , you come to a point of do you want them to live in pain and suffer or put them out of their misery??? When I put my rotti down, I had to carry her into the Vets office and I could see in her eyes that she knew what was going on- it was one of the few time I have cried, but I knew it was best

I've never had to do that bro, but man...that's gotta be tough.

And believe me. That's in the back of mind. It was the first time i noticed her having problems because that's ultimately always the conclusion of that issue. ugh...and like I said, she's my girl. I found her and her brother and 2 sisters in a field out in the middle of no-where South Carolina after having to follow a dead tap that cut off into the woods. I even had to bust out the 4 wheeler to map it out. Then when I came back with the truck a few minutes later. They, the little litter wasn't where I found them earlier. I called for them, and they came running from around this little retention pond thing. I went for the last one and found their mother. I don't wanna get too graphic but she had been passed away for a while. When I took the litter of 4 to the vet the next morning, he verified what I figured, that they were around 7-8wks old. They were very under nourished, but the prettiest little puppies. They got healthy and doubled in size the first week. I kept the one, Gracie. People always say what a pretty dog she is. And she is different, like personality, natural disposition. She is or was basically wild. Which has made out to be not the normal domesticated dog. But she has been, and is, a great dog.
