Me and the wife have been talking about getting another dog. Well she really has been the one mentioning it. She wanted a lab. They're great dogs, but I've had one and I just want something else. So we've talked about a Doberman (black), or German Shepherd. Both, dogs I've had growing up. Both great dogs. I've never had a Pit Bull, and that's what I really want. I want a pretty, sweet, little red-nose pit. The ones I know are great dogs too. A friend of mine had a red-nose pit like I'd never seen before. It was a frosted, kinda gray color. It was beautiful. Then his girlfriend accidentally let it out when she opened the door when he was about 6 months old, and he was gone. My friend explained to me how rare that color pit is. So, just last weekend, I get a knock on the door. There's a lady standing out there. I open the door, she says, "is this your dog?" Then this little guy comes running around the corner all happy. I knelt down, and he ran right to me. The lady said she and her son had walked around the neighborhood for 2hrs trying to find the owners. She said she couldn't take it home, so I gladly took the dog in. I figured, of coarse, someone was missing him. I opened the garage and looked for someone to pass looking for him, but no-one ever drove by.
Short of it. The dog stayed the night. He was great. My daughter loved him. Surprisingly, my little dog got along with him.(he doesn't like any other male dogs.) We ran an add for found dog. I almost hoped that nobody would claim him, but the next day, a guy drove by while my mother-inlaw was arriving. He stopped out front, and before he could finish his sentance, she said "I think we might have who you're looking for." So, there he went. I wasn't home when he left, but my wife said that the puppy got very happy and just kissed all over his owner. That's good. I could tell the first night, though, that they weren't raising that dog well. He was getting spoiled already. He couldn't have been 4 months old, and he was all about people food. I taught him to sit and not jump on the couch in 2 minutes. He was great. He was sweet and cheerful. He listened, and learned fast. I want one.
This is Red. yeah...Red. That's his name. Original huh.

he was the best. And for some reason, my wife still doesn't really want one. But she told me that the owner's cousin breeds them, so...sounds like I might be getting one. Ever since my friend had this color one, I've wanted one...bad. And Red was just too sweet and perfect. He fit right in. He was so happy.
Maybe that's what I'm getting for my b-day! That would be the best. I doubt that though.

ahh, so that's a blue nose. The foreman that I'm working with right now has blue nose pits. I was wondering about them.
Very pretty dogs ds! I want one so bad. I'm gonna show my wife your post too. She's not against them. I told her long ago that people make them out to be monsters, and they couldn't be farther from it. I've met meaner labs. Most pits that I've met in all my years in the field have been fine. I have ran across the wrong one here or there, but that's to be said about any breed.
But, I just can't get it out of her why she just doesn't really want one. I guess she just really wants a shepherd. which are great dogs too. I've just had like 5 throughout my lifetime.

aw man. he was funny. He played and stumbled around all over the place. Then when one of my dogs, which are getting on up there in age, would get on to him to chill out, he would cower down for a second, then he was back at them...all goofy how a puppy acts.

These dogs are what you make of them. The one thing you must keep in mind is that you will have to set the pecking order- and yes this means physically. They must know who the Alpha male is- after that ,show them nothing but love. My daughter takes food and bones away from both of theseentle giants with no issues. I wish you well in your search!

Thanks for the tips ds. I figured you must physically teach them from the very beginning. That's how I got that little one to listen to me that evening. He didn't really care what I said until I flipped him over on his back and patted his belly and so on. Then he was dialed in. He literally tuned in to everything I told him. He would watch me talk, and it didn't take 2 minutes with him, and he would sit while my wife could eat something while sitting at the couch. And this little guy would lunge for people food, and jump all over the couch before.

some people don't understand it and call it cruel, but it is needed to have authority. Once set- its rare you have to re-instate it.

Very beautiful dogs. I was never a big fan of Rocks or Pitbulls until I began watching the Animal Planet channel alot, particularly "Animal Cops".

My next door neighbor used to have a pitbull living in his place, despite the fact that we're not supposed to have pets. Although a couple of the other neighbors would ***** and moan about him, when the guy asked me if I had a problem with his dog, I told him that he was asking the wrong person since I love dogs. My only issue with his dog was when he left a mound of his "appreciation" at my front door one day. It was all good because I simply hosed it off. The dog even barked alot but I was okay with that too.

But the funniest incident came when I had just pulled up in my SUV one day and the guy had the dog sitting, unattended, at his front door. He wasn't leached, despite my warnings to the guy should the pitbull ever attack anyone or another pet. The dog eyed me down before I can get out of my car and gave a short bark (no growls). Then he got quiet and slowly crept to my car with his nose in the air. I laughed because I'd realized that I had eaten at Wendy's before I came home and figured that he was smelling the residue aroma that was left on me.
