Problems with computer

Our PC keeps freezing up and shutting down with an error message. Has anyone eevr used a registry cleaner? If so, which one?

I have used "HiJack This" with good success. Of course, you will probably have to do some research to determine what files are associated with the programs you want and don't want running in the background but it helps out a lot.

My husband's computer just completely went down. He lost everything including tons of before/after pics of jobs he's done. Customer info, bids, everything. We're still trying to find him an affordable computer. We really don't have the money for one right now.

anyway our tech guy at work always uses Trend Micro to clean up our computers here. Check out HouseCall it's good.

Crap Cleaner is the name of the program, really. As far as registry cleaners go its the best. IMO

The Windows registry is a massive database of almost every setting imaginable for every application on your system. It only makes sense that cleaning it out would improve performance, right? Sadly it's just a marketing gimmick designed to sell registry cleaner products, as the reality is quite different... registry cleaners only remove a very small number of unused keys, which won't help performance when you consider the hundreds of thousands of keys in the registry.

This isn't to say they are completely useless, of course. I'd still recommend cleaning the registry when you are trying to troubleshoot a problem caused by uninstalling buggy software that leaves entries behind, but even then you should be very careful to use a reputable application like previously mentioned CCleaner and review the entries before deleting anything."

Another view," I’d go a step further: Don’t run registry cleaner programs, period. I won’t go so far as to call them snake oil, but what possible performance benefits can you get from “cleaning up” unneeded registry entries and eliminating a few stray DLL files?"

Well, did you get it working?

I'm about to open a can of worms. My Mac is running just fine, but I need to update the OS. I'm figured when I do this there will be some major glitch. I had decided to wait until I'm pretty much forced too. The day has come sooner than I was hope for. I got new iPod Nano for my birthday and the iTunes that is on the computer isn't compatible. I tried downloading the new iTunes, but it won't run on my current OS. I also bought new accounting software for our business. Naturally it won't work on the old OS. The payroll program that I got is giving me a warning message saying I need to update the OS.

I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and update it. Yuck!
