Video Conferencing

So do to the nature of my work I'm out of town a lot. I was wondering if you guys have any advice as to which web cam to get and what software i need to have in order to be able to see and speak to my family over the internet?

Honestly I have no idea about web cams, etc.
But a good friend of mine and customer recently told me his company uses SKYPE
It's free from what I understand and works pretty well.
They use it internationally for overseas business and I would think if it's good enough for that it should be OK for family stuff.
