those reasonssssssssss are not always about QUALITY...it's about EGO, PRETIEGE....i'm talking bmw...i'm talking mercedes (who's starting to make an ok car again), i'm even counting lexus...dude, most people buy those out of ego, not economics. not quality. sure...they use quality as an excuse, but it's about the bling...showing off. domestics dont have the SEXY factor. but quality?...they've had that for awhile now. shyt....ford's ATLEAST as dependable as toyota, IF NOT MORE!!!
forget it....people will always assume their junk, just like people will always look at bodybuilders and assume their just meathead's. it's stereotipical.

And i love u too Horsy but u seem like my dad. My dad and i argue about this almost everyday..he always thinks that American car are the best and so forth.
But again i MOSTLY see american cars at the shop, either engine probs, transmission or distributor head..Dont get me wrong im transam/cobra/vette fans as well and awlays drove v8 all my life/modified cars not till i got me a benz to stay away from racing, but always probs after probs with american cars...Honda and toyata are know for their engine to last forever.
Ok have i looked into their engine from 2006-2008 now?? answer is NO, but the reputations from the past is still stuck to my head( probs wise)

I was a weekend warrior, test & tune was actually always a weeknight, but I raced for many years. From streetracing(weekend warrior) every summer, as my hometown is one of America's best beach vacation spots and spring break capital in the 90s, to hitting the quartermile every week. Between me and a friend, we went threw 4 Mustangs over a few years (just keeping up with models). That was the later years at tracks. You can drive 'em like you stole 'em without problem, especially once the Tremec 3650 was in place from 2001 to present. Mustangs are as bulletproof as you can get now days. You can't let any ole Joe at the corner shop go tuning on a mod motor though. Now the imports...not so tough. And there aren't more of them on the street. It's proven who sells the most. It just depends on where you are, and what you're looking for. Ever notice how when you drive something, you suddenly see that vehicle all over the place?
There's also class of cars. Think about it. The big three are the only ones that offer something, or multiple choices, for every class. And one-mo-gin; Domestics out-sell all the rest. You're only hearing about this big-three issue because it's us. The guys over seas are going threw it too. They're actually hoping for the "big loan" as well, for some reason.

then u had a wave of college kids join the ranks

that meant most merican were bought by older white folks

over time, due too marketing and branding, ie, those cars being out there so long, the older folks like anyone else, wants a change, try something different

so, they did, and they liked what they bought

what car companies have come on big in last decade, koreans, dawai, hyundaie, why cheap cheap cheap cheap

they have increased market share

it's not cause mericans don't have cheap cars, is that they don't try and brrand them or push them cause the margins are thin

as more and more mgf jobs were lost, good paying for high school grads, u had folks who had less money yet still needed transportation

it's all money plus demographics

older americans who no longer need big cars or more cars and drive less, are still branded in the head by merican is best, yet, they are a smaller and smaller part of demographic

with legacy costs, merican tried too grow out of the problem, cause in mfg once you get past certain costs the next mfg item makes a crap load of mullah, problem is if you don't hit that rubicon, you're f'd

this is a classic biz story, ceo's paid themselves gross amounts of money while there biz sucked or got worse, and you can't fool the unions, they were like hey asshole if you're going to pay yourself gross money we want some too

now, they are all finally on the same page

i'll agree with you for the most part trip...they were GROSSLY over paid...much like the rest of the ceo's in ALL forms of industry. had to hire someone to steer the ship when homedepot is paying him stupid money to ceo their company. how you gonna pull a ceo from another company if you dont run in line or offer MORE compensation...half assed leadership, yes...but you had to pay to get that half assed guy from the other company!

and horse is right...japan carried toyota FOR YEARS!!! and believe me, they (japan) will prop them up now, nice and quietly!! you wont hear the jap citizens whining about it either. korea? yea...they'll make sure hyundi stays stable. us...we'll whine, drag it out, embaress ourselves and throw some halfassed $ at it and look like we're (the politicians) are doing something so benevoleant for our "workers" and try to cash in for future votes! what a joke....all the tech, we as a country get out of the automakers...all the $ they generate for our country. i hear this bullshyt about such-n-such are made in texas and so-n-so has a factory in alabama...people please!! thats ASSEMBLY plants. you think the tech that goes into the car stays here? it takes ALOT of workers to take a car from PAPER to assembly....the difference in the $ generated by ford on an f150, from making the parts, stamping the steel, creating the electronics, and everything else BEFORE assembly, is more $ than ALL the other manufactures assembly plants generate for our contry COMBINED...so save the "it's built here" bullshyt...your deluding yourself. the REAL money goes back home to their originating country. the tech breakthoughs go to the originating country....we'll sell out our family for a delusion...what a shame

On that "it's assembled here" shyt. You're so right. but i don't have to tell you that. For example, I got a kickass book on the YZF-R6. It's limited. And it really is. I haven't found it anywhere, online, anywhere for sale. I guess they sent it to me because I bought the bike 2 yrs in a row back to back, and that's what it's about. The making of the '08 R6, which is the 13S model. The 2CO was the '06-'07. but anyway, to the point. Those bikes are assembled right here. I thought I did, but I had no idea just how much goes into the development of a model until this book. Hence Dave's point. I mean, I know we're not quite speaking oranges for oranges here, but the point remains. The developers probably bank what the plant earns annually...if not more.
and yeah, we're gonna broadcast our bullshyt like it's the cool thing to do. That's us though. They do it differently over the pond.

ceo crap, that u have too pay to get a good one

ceo's have become like rock stars and pro athletes, they get paid the most on perception and potential, which is 100% the boards fault, and all is does is set the company up for tons of problems, ie, ceo's making 100 times the workers, no one and i mean no one is worth that much except a few in the world, buffet and gates and jobs, and the list ends right f'n there

what every board, and every one misses is one guy can f'n destroy fifty years of good in a few years with stupid dumb bad decisions based on stupid beliefs systems

thank your law makers dude (including bush)...they wanted the big3 to invest in new tech for greener emissions and to break away from fossil fuel. they granted them 25bil to do it. now, they took 15 of it and gave it to them for this...it was gone LOOOOONG ago...the same way pulson has our 700bil and and is allowing banks to buy other banks with it, instead of putting it back on the street like they were supposed too.
