Just wondering if anyone here has lost any cash in a 401k, IRA, etc...? My mother in law lost 75k in Wachovia where she works and several others I know have lost a few grand here and there. I cashed mine out in July, just had a funny feelin and now it's split between the bank and a FCU.

We had most of our money tied up in Wachovia. Over 100k. The week prior to the forced selling the CEO addressed the share holders stating that Wachovia was in a good position. Later that week there was a 3 billion dollar run on the bank and the feds forced them to take a deal over the weekend. We had absolutely no idea.
We also had about 50k tied up in emerging markets and have lost about half of that. I haven't looked lately. i don't have the heart to.Comment

On paper $30K.... but I haven't cashed out of anything. I'm keeping everything right where it is for now. I do have a shopping list of stocks I'd like to buy just in case my house sells... it's wishful thinking. I had plan to invest the money from the house when it does sell.
For those of you who lost money in Wachovia, did you own Wachovia stock or bonds? I'm just wondering how you lost money, because I bank with Wachovia... money market & checking account. I haven't lost anything. My other investments are with other mutual funds not related to Wachovia.Comment

Mine dropped about 17%, but I have 30 years to keep building. When it hit below 9,000 I actually called and tripled my monthly amount so I could get more shares at cheaper. It wasn't much but down the road I'll be glad I added the additional shares.I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.

I have probally lost about 10%. I started moving most of money into gold, silver,platinum and copper last year. I had started buying gold even earlier, when it ws in the $500 range. Now it is in the upper $900 to $1000 range per ounce.About 75% of mine is tied up in preciuos metals. The rest is inmutual funds.
Did buy some GM and Ford stock last week when it was very low. Also bought Wachovia when it fell below $5.00 per share.Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
