Couldnt find the statistics on this since the recession/high gas prices hit. Had a talk with someone today who said she is going to say "to hell" with car insurance for now. We just made changes to our coverage. My husband's truck was paid off and with over 230,000 miles, so we put just liability and uninsured motorist on it. He's only had one wreck and that was back in high school...

In NY the won't even lock you up. They issue the summons to whatever name is on the bogus no hit license or non driver ID.

We've got the same problem here. I've been hit once by uninsured illegal and my ex husband got hit once. Both took off an never saw them again, so we couldn't get anything out of either one.

Same here in California. There are too many illegal immigrants and undocumented Mexicans here who are driving with no license, let along insurance. In addition to an increase of uninsured drivers, there is also an increase of hit-n-run accidents, often with fatalities.

In NC, if your vehicle is paid off, you must carry Lia bility insurance. I have a few friends that tried to get away with out insurance. They got a visit from our DMV officers to confiscate the license tags
