quirkysmilin... that is good info. Where did you get this? I need to pass this on to some folks. Who are asking the same questions.

Found this site www.votesmart.org that shows how elected officials voted. It was Very helpful. It seems to me like Obama doesn't show up half the time to vote.

    Obama

    McCain

Obama is nothing more than a smoke and mirrors display that will become much clearer in the coming months- please don't be fool by has smooth tonque. To me, and remember this is Deep we're talking about, the Most important thing foremost to any American should be National Security hands done- then the rest- Economy, Healthcare and so on- Now that I have said that, If you would like to continue to live in a FREE world - who do you honestly think is most qualified to make sure that happens??? Then you have your answer to should be handed to reins to the Free World as we know it.

They want to vote on gain marriages and abortion. These are personal freedoms and I don't care about who someone marries. It's not my place to tell a women that she can or can't have an abortion.

McCain is talking corp tax cuts and decreasing Estate and capital gains tax. My husband's business isn't big enough to qualify for corp tax cuts. I'm not inheriting a million dollars in my lifetime nor do I have anything to sell and make capital gains off of so these cuts don't do my any good. My husband is self employed and on my insurance. The company I'm working for is up for sale and one division has already been sold. Those people are all laid off... and I might be next. What are they going to do about our health care system.

        • Health care: Obama proposes national health care that companies will have to pay into for each employee. If this is the case... this will be a huge stress on my husband's business. For now his employees are on their spouses insurance, so it's not like they aren't covered at all. However, if I loss my job will be paying for insurance ourselves.

        • what are Obama/McCain going to do about Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

        • Where does Obama stand on gun control? I looked up how he voted and he did vote. He was listed as "NV" not available. Our place has been broken into 4 times this year and yes we have guns. I want to be able to protect my self because I can't rely on the police to do it.

        • What are Obama/McCain's plans for Iraq?

        • McCain voted for the Internet Tax Freedom Bill, but I couldn't find anything on how Obama voted. Does he want want to tax us on our internet purchases and e-commerce? We pay enough taxes on things. I don't think we need to be taxed here too.

        • Their energy plans and environmentally issues both sound about the same.

I'm so confused I don't know who to vote for!
        Social Security
McCain wants to privatize social security. Obama (and all liberals) want you to believe that Republicans will be leaving the elderly out high and dry but then offer no other solution. Social security will have to be dealt with sooner than later; we have more people getting older while fewer people are fitting the bill - it's simple numbers.

        Second Amendment (gun rights)
In 2000, McCain was targeted as the gun-control candidate in the Republican primaries against George Bush.
However Obama, like everything else is evasive when it comes to stating where he stands on the issue but the NRA is using their resources against Obama.

        Healthcare
Obama's National healthcare is retarded - I think most people realize this so I won't expand on it.

McCain is an advocate for the Health Saving account. This gives individuals more choice and creates more competition between healthcare providers. It's not the cure but it is a step in the right direction as opposed to the jump off the cliff that the national healthcare would provide.

        Iraq
Obama has stated many times we need to pull out of Iraq. The progress the military has made in Iraq is irrelevant - we pull out.

McCain - when we leave is of no concern, the concern is eliminating casualties.

        Taxes
Obama - it doesn't really matter what Obama says about taxes; listen to what he proposes government pay for. All taxes will go up and then he will create some more. A down turn in the economy is an acceptable result for creating financial equality.

        Energy
        Obama
promotes alternative and foreign energy only.

        McCain
conceded we need to drill domestically.

                dixie,

FWIW, i've said many times on this board imho the problem is WHAT IS THE NEW PATH FOR MIDDLE CLASS

from 1930's too late 1980''s it was manufacturing and unions, a good job with good pay that could provide a safe and secure future and raise the standards of your children

for the above 50 year period because the us of a was the only stablle country and economy in the world capital, ie, money to invest and create great business's were abundant

capitalism proved to be the best bet for the future so more countries adopted it, and since they had lower cost structures business's flourished and moved worldwide

now the world has world wide shipping and transportation systems set up for every type of product and commodity in the world, it is really a global world now

so, now we are in competition with the rest of the world, which means our middle class is in competition with middle class's thruout the rest of the world

what matters are a persons skills or area of expertise, this means education

what disgust me is nation wide we still have a high school graduation rate that is dispicable

so, imho, obie does have it right, in the future, education will seperate the people from there money

get smart or get beat in a global world

I think you have identified a legitimate problem but Obie doesn't want to change the educational system he just wants to throw more money at a government bureaucracy that is in charge of educating our children and increase the time they have with our children. To echo an overused slogan - more of the same.

McCain supports a voucher program that offers incentive for schools to develop the best product for the best price, i.e. competition. This is a step towards privatization. If we want our education to improve it needs to be privatized.

Re: What are they REALLY going to do for us?

demographics of vouchers suck, why, people want no problems, who wants to spend more time transporting there children here and there, factually the number is small, and it is mostly rich folks cause they are the only one with time

now you get too add in, higher and higher transportation costs, another reason folks won't take vouchers

Re: What are they REALLY going to do for us?

Yes, Trip... I agree. It is a global world now. Education is a key to our success globally. However, I still feel education should be left to local and state level. This is because each state how different demographics and depending on their own challenges they have different needs to over come. It's also a given that our federal gov screws entangles everything is so much red-tape that education would get messed just the same.

If we didn't pay so much in Federal taxes, then it would free up money that could go locally... either more money in parents pocket for tuition, books, school supplies or to donate to the school.

If education is as important as you say it is, people will find the time for the most important thing in their child's life.
