This has been my experience too. I'm not saying that all Mexican's are this way, but the majority seem to be. There isn't a week that goes by that some sorry white guys takes a job in the plant only to walk out or get fired by the end of their first week over stupid shit... drinking/drugs, tardy, no show, fighting, etc. We've had white works go on break and never come back. One guy was asleep on the racks where they keep raw materials in the back. Yes... taking a nap!
On the other hand... how much we are paid is a lot like the economy. If there is a shortage of labor then the labor pool is more competitive therefore pay is more competitive. When there are tons of people looking for work, they don't have to pay as much... people have to take what they can get. When I first moved to this town in the early 90's, unemployment was low. Starting pay in the mills was $10 hr. Retail and restaurants had to pay more than minimum wage to keep employees, because people could get better paying jobs in the mills. Now that the mills are laying off... retail and restaurants are only paying min wage.
