miles today! I was thinking about doing the 100mile oil change that allot of the pros do because of the fact that most of the shavings come off in the first 100 miles, but I think I'll stick to the 300/600/900.
You can tell too. The 1st oil change at 300miles on my last bike was nasty. The next 2 were clean as a whistle. It's good to get that crap out of the motor asap.
just keep the rpms down and break it in right. I have heard the 100 mile oil change. if you have the extra cash go for it. I am more of a drive it like you stole kinda guy.
the manual on our bikes recommends 600 for the first one im sticking with it and then 400 after that.
yep, that's for the general public, bike shop recommended break in regimen. The reason for that is that it's basically error proof. Safe for all at the expense of power.
Check out how a sportbike engine really wants to be treated during break-in. You can find several articles by pro crew chiefs and veteran gurus that explain how and why they break in an engine the way they do. They all do it pretty much the same way. and it ain't the ole, "keep it under 5k for 500 miles" and "1st change around 600-1000 depending on your riding style..." break-in that's recommended for sake of ease...so people don't slip up and ruin a motor.

that's actually better for it, than "keeping it under 5k for 500miles". Well...to some degree. some high revs are much better for it than keeping it so low in the RPMs for that long, and lugging it is the absolute worse thing you can do.
I wonder if dirt bikes have to be broken in,lol...imagine telling a 12yr old kid to take it easy on his new CR-85. There is the old saying, "you baby it...", but really, seals and shyt need to seat before you start giving it hell. That's how you get stuff inbetween seals. They never seat hence the smoking bike with less go. But the 'baby it' saying does come into play before 1000miles.
WE RACED MANY HOPPED UP 85'S AND 125'S AND I ALWAYS MADE SURE THEY HAD 2 OR 3 DIFFERENT HEAT CYCLES OF BREAK IN FIRST...THEN YOU CAN RIDE THEM LIKE YOU STOLE THEM. THATS ALL IT TOOK ON A 2 STROKE
..“Your desire to change must be greater than your desire to stay the same.”
oh im not saying that i baby mine im just saying that im waiting till 500 miles which is pretty soon for my first oil change thats all. at 100 miles that motor hasn't full given off all of it's shaving yet anf the next 400 miles aren't going to hurt it.

I've always beaten my bikes like they owed me money from the day I purchased them--Never had a problem at all, but I always perform my maintenance religiously

you got new ones?..lucky. I could only wish for a brand new 80 or 125. I would put posters of the new CR-80 on my wall every year. man...I woulda killed for one of those. I had a badass little yz-80 though.[used] and man, you talk about ream the shyt outa something. That thing didn't see anything less than full throttle...literally. and I don't remember letting off the gas one time to shift...kickin a rooster tail from hell til it got up to speed.
