SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama opposes offering reparations to the descendants of slaves, putting him at odds with some black groups and leaders.



The man with a serious chance to become the nation's first black president argues that government should instead combat the legacy of slavery by improving schools, health care and the economy for all.

bro i know TONS of black people that would nt disagree...any educated person will say reparations is bs...i think most people black or white would say the same thing...

What about the uneducated people, of every race? We all know there are many of them, and they do not have to be educated to vote. I guess if someone believes in reparations, they must be uneducated?
I have run across many people who are so uneducated about their choice of a presidental candidate. They can't even give a reason, or reasons, why they are voting for one or the other, especially for Obama.

That is so true. It would be nice to be able to have some educational or IQ criteria that people had to pass to be able to vote but then that would just give government something else to be in control of and it could eventually be turned around to exclude the highly educated and informed people (citizens like me!) from voting but it does suck knowing that my highly informed vote is equal to some crack heads vote who was told to go vote for Obama and they'd get a 8ball.

I would go a few steps further. Anyone that supports reparations, redistribution of wealth, incentive programs and minimum wage, just to name a few, show they are uninformed or uneducated. You could say the same about many social freedoms as well, the pro "drug war" and "pro-life" positions are also positions that express double standards and thus are ultimately more uninformed and uneducated positions.

sorry, I always get on the soap box when I'm reminded of how an informed vote can and will be undermined by the ignorant who probably have the same goals as the informed they just approach problems illogically.
