Bill introduced by Republicans to outlaw semiauto weapons----TIME TO FIGHT THIS TOOTH
I agree gun control increases violence. Look at the Vermont shooting - gun free zone.
...but stiff punishment for unlicensed guns is the wrong solution. Your still putting gun ownership criteria in the hands of the government, the same ignorant government that thinks banning guns decreases violence. That would just make it easier for government to control guns.
People have no fear of the justice system because it can deem just about anyone a criminal. Just look at community jails and prisons - they get a new budget to build a new wing on the jail or prison and the next year it's at full capacity. We house as many prisoners as we can afford to house because are laws are too lose. The only power any government has, is the power to crack down on criminals and when there aren't enough of them, they create more by broadening laws.
We need to go back to protecting individual freedom and do away with this premise "that a particular act leads to violence and therefore must be illegal".
Violent crimes, fraud and theft is the only thing government should punish people for and those punishments should be very stiff.
I think that list should be a little longer. For example, people who sell drugs to kids, multiple DUIs, child molestation (maybe that's under violent crimes). My thoughts are anything crime that does damage to the innocent and make it worse if the crime is committed against a child. People who sell drugs to little kids should be shot in public. I know that's a little harsh, but what do you think that would do to the thought process of drug dealers. Any dealer that uses kids to distribute drugs gets the same punishment. Anyone that would use kids that way is a danger to society and should be removed from society. IMO. They serve no purpose what so ever except to mess up the future of other people.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.

o.k. maybe a little longer.
I totally share your passion on people selling drugs to kids and your right about laws concerning driving. We can't let blind people drive there has to be a level of competence and driving while intoxicated is not a level of competency that should be accepted.
Once the drug prohibition is lifted we would have law abiding citizens being responsible for the dispersal of medication and manipulating a minor/dependent with drugs would be easier to protect.
