NEW YORK - Caleb Campbell took an oath to serve and protect his nation as a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy.

---If he is not going to honor the commitment that he agreed to with the Army for getting such a great education at West Point, he should have to reimburse them for his education just like the other Academies require. Serving part time as a recruiter in his 'off-season' is not honoring the commitment! Now he will live the life of an NFL player while his fellow cadets go on to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Pat Tillman walked away from NFL stardom and 3 million dollars to serve his country in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger...Now Caleb Campbell is doing the opposite. He is walking away from his commitment so he can play football and make $$$ instead.

Caleb Campbell was well aware of the commitment as he attended the Academy. He should have to serve or reimburse!

He can't do it without the Army's permission so it doesn't bother me. Maybe his job training is not in high demand or something.

Lions save the day for final pick of Army safety Campbell

The Detroit Lions became the story of the NFL draft's second day for their last pick. In the seventh round, at 218 overall, they took Army safety Caleb Campbell. The Lions had the extra pick from an earlier trade with the New Orleans Saints.

A couple picks prior to taking Campbell, the Lions drafted Ohio University's Landon Cohen. The 6-foot-3, 274-pound defensive tackle was named second-team All-MAC.

But the biggest applause was for Campbell. ESPN reported all day on Campbell because the 6-foot-2, 230 pounder would be spared having to serve in Iraq if he made a NFL roster. Halfway through the final round, he got the call from the Lions. The entire draft crowd erupted, jerseys from every NFL team represented.

During an interview on ESPN, head coach Rod Marinelli – himself an Army veteran – told his last draft pick to be "in shape and ready to tackle."

Marinelli said he plans to try out Campbell as a strong-side linebacker, but he knows the cadet has the versatility to play safety, if the Lions decide to go that route.

I wonder how his fellow cadets feel about him doing this shyt???I'd be pissed if I was going to combat in Iraq...what about peeps who have done 3-4 tours of 15 months each in Iraq???it aint gonna ruin him to do one phucken tour of duty...NFL..What a crock o shyt
