  • everybody got their yards...

looking good? Well I guess T-man isn't having to mess with any yard work yet with snow storms still blowing in, but I got into some yard detail today. It's coming around too. I let it go to hell last winter. A good round of Scott's and (2) 60minute per station rounds of water a day for the last couple months have it green and growing again. It's back to a once a week duty, but once I get into it, I actually enjoy it.

LOL- yeah, I've started with some mowing but you don't plant anything new here until after Mother's Day. I've had to change out a couple sprinkler heads already though. In the next three weeks I will have a lot to do with changing the flower beds, changing out sprinkler heads (I'm tired of the ones I have now) and planting the garden stuff. We are also adding grapes this year. We have friends that have grapes like crazy so I though we would give it a shot. We have the typical green grapes and then some of the black seedless grapes. Man, anything to cut down on groceries. We also do the veggies we eat the most too. Well, except corn, I don't grow corn.

I got a bunch of weed killer on clearance this year, thinking I was getting a deal. I've put so many applications on, there shouldn't be a weed left (they are mocking me) but I still have a gallon left.

Then I have my bamboo that I like collecting. I still need to get some 'Robert Young. I already have the 'giant gray henon' and the 'moso'.

that bamboo will grow like a champ once it gets going, won't it? It will spread like wold fire too, huh? It is pretty cool. Bamboo stalks are hard as hell.

And T-man, I was doing the sprinkler heads the first year we moved in, but i've slacked the past few years. I need to continue with the rest. I got about have the yard replaced, and the ones I was going to, put out some serious water and have a great coverage spray pattern. I know that people that aren't on separate well for irrigation avoid these bad boys because of how much they put out. I forget what it is...like 10 gallons a minute, maybe??? I can't remember, but I remember it towards the top water output for regular lawn sprinkler heads. Isn't there a color code that lets you know the water output?

The $hit is unbelievable really. I planted a batch of three mature canes last august - this spring 8 shoots came up with one being about 9 feet tall and the rest at least over 6' tall and they all grew to that height in about 3 weeks.

They say you can eat the shoots and it is 50% protein. haven't tried that yet - doesn't look to appetizing.

oh yeah, you can tear up some bamboo shoots. I didn't know they were 50% protein! That's stout! Need to look around for the recipe for them. They go great in some stir fry, or now that I think about it, just fix them up and add them into some whole grain rice. That'd be a grow dish for sure right ther.

If you've had your share of chinese food, you've probably eaten bamboo shoots. They're little white crunchy sticks. Their not too bad either.
