McCain has won over 1,200 actual pledged delegates. Those delegates will not change before the National Convention in Saint Paul. And correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm sure you will, but there's only a total of 2,380 delegates to be had. Which leaves, not enough for any other candidate to take the lead, correct? No matter if Ron Paul swept up and shut McCain out for the remaining delegates. Once the results of the pledged primaries are totalled officially, there won't be enough delegates on the table for anyone else. Or am I missing something?

Lincoln went to the convention with 20 delegates. Accounting for inflation, that's about 120 today. He managed after three votes to pull it off. In the state delegate conventions, we've got to unbind our delegates from the popular vote winner. Let the delegates handle the vote. It is a Representative Republic.

and if it goes to a brokered convention anything can happen...

Well, we aren't in the situation the democratic party is, and we don't have 'superdelegates' to ultimately make or break a candidate if we were in that close of a run. Those 1200+ delegates that are McCain's are voted on by the people. Each 1 of those 1200 delegates are made of hundreds sometimes thousands of votes from primaries, so if any 1 of those delegates were to be changed, then something very corrupt would've went down. No, he's not officially the elected gop candidate, and anybody else can still run if they wanted to see how many of the remaining delegates they can get, for whatever reason, but when the already tallied 1200 & something delegates are officially turned in on Sept. 1st or whenever, subtract 1200 from 2380 and you come up with less delegates than 1200...which McCain has already achieved by popular and fair vote.
