Turn it into the police department, make sure they do a found property report and make sure you get a report number... follow up on it too, after a certain amount of time, if they dont find the owner or no one claims it, you will get it back to do with whatever you want... legally you could be charged with misappropriation of lost property if you keep it... thats my advice at least, plus it would be off your conscious too

i dont know...your right, but chances are, if I found 5k cash, it'd be in a paper bag somewhere and i'd have a good idea that it was drug money...a diamond ring is a little diff...the cash, your right, i'd keep it...the ring...i really would try to find the owner...thats me.

all i can think of is when the cops used to ride up and "confiscate" our beer and "let us off" with a warning. you know they took the brewskis home and cracked open a cold one that i paid for. why would one assume after you bring it to the station that the officer you turned it into wouldn't bring it home to his wife?
