  • Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 1989

Was talking to this 34 year old cop last night and I mentioned this to her and she said "Whats Tianenmen Square?"...wonder how many of you remember that...I hear that the chinese govt will NOT allow any media in Tianenmen square during the Olympics...where is the outrage over that????
I would like to hear opinions from you guys regarding the recent protests over Tibet and how you all feel about this Olympics...should the games have have been granted to China? should we boycoot opening ceremonies? Boycott the games???
I think this is going to be the most politicized Olympics ever. Today it was announced the Chinese arrrested a bunch of islamic extremists/terrorists planning on kidnapping athletes at the games. they had explosives and jihadist literature. It is believed by some that it was fabricated by the chinese to justify Military presence during games...They sure dont want the world to see certain things going on there...What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 1989

lol, i remember it and i was remincising over it two days ago and u posted this

my two pennies, imho, u don't here folks talking about china in terms of ther own history, and how they became communists, and out of that venue have 1.5 billion people to feed and clothe

just think of all the problems we have right now in our society, imho, the folks at the top there are probably struggling greatly with lotsa of stuff, and tienaman square really will go down in there history as a turning point

it was a revolt of the young against the old, a shucking off of communism control in a vein to try and get some personal independence

20 years later, ya gotta say they have come along way

i think with tibet, they look at it more on a nation type issue, as if texas said, hey screw the usa we won't to be independent , or something similar

there big fear is tibetan indpendence leads to more and more provinces flexing independent muscle and it's affect on the over all soveringty of the nation

i guess i'm just trying to say it's probably ten times more complex than we realize

Re: Tiananmen Square Massacre, June 1989

No doubt trip! good one! Prob is more complicated. But peeps in Tibet want to preserve their culture. China wants to take away their traditional way of life.
Right now phone lines in Tibet are shut off.if U send an email in china with the word Tibet it is intercepted by the govt. So they spell Tibet: t1bet. peeps are still being executed and tortured.
This olympics is going to be a fiasco. The next Olympics might as well be in Iran...lol

Aah yes... I do indeed remember Tiananmen....

"their big fear is tibetan indpendence leads to more and more provinces flexing independent muscle and it's affect on the over all soveringty of the nation"

They saw what happened to the old Soveit Union.. Same basic scenario. If the provinces split away, it shows weakness...

One thing you see with China, is they pull military forces from a totally different Province that is far from the province that is revolting. What this does is keep from personal feelings being involved. It isn't brother against brother...

                x lent poin, xadrenaline

my other guess is this will be much bigger than we all imagine in the end

i liken it to gay marriage, don't laugh

while everyone was up in arms about the governorship being voted out in callyfornia in 04, the media was on that race 24-7, little old conneticut or one of those states allowed gay marriage, bait and switch, and the media raced east, and then some state in the west did it alos, and then they raced there and then some other state did it

in hind site, u could say it was a planned strategy that was working underneath the surffice, and it shifted gay marriage onto the forefront and they got out of it, civil unions, a major ku

my guess is the monks had this plan they been working on for a year, and they want to be in media for the next nine months

this has not ended and my guess is they will win something, that has same effect as the square, china is too big too keep a lid on it, is what the top is finding out, they will have to bow to the people

                says confucious, or confused me

                take ur pick

Well, I certainly dont want to sound like that Gerbal in the ass guy, richard gere! That would be to much to be aligned with his politics but this protest does have some merit.

imho, it's got major domo merit, i'm with the monks all the way

tibetin budhists vow is too non-violence, always, that is why it is a key too human rights, they are not fighting to establish control, overthrow, exert power over others

it is a vow for peace in every way

I think not allowing media in Tianenmen Square will probably bring more attention to their oppressive past because it shows they are still oppressive; when if they would just allow it, it would display a contrast to the incident.

The story will now be of how reporters are harassed and we will hear of the obvious military or security presence that is justified for safety reasons but examples will be given to show the opposite. The politics might be more entertaining than the events.

                            They ARE like everyone else.

the good the bad the indiffence

they have gone from almost 90% agrarians, self contained country, to i'd guess maybe 30-40% industrialized in 30 years, that does not come without major growing pains on all fronts

i'm not saying they are right, yet, it's a bag load of doo doo keeping 1.5 billion folks fed cloathed happy healthy

there is no map, no one in history has evver been there before

i see em more as the rat on the wheel, the whole time thinking, what can i do , what can i do

Dzone, I thought you might find this interesting - might have already known about it but...Athletes who display Tibetan flags at Olympic venues — including in their own rooms — could be expelled from this summer’s Games in Beijing under anti-propaganda rules.
