For those of you that just "watch" NASCAR, you will never get it. There is so much more going on behind the scenes than you realize.
I used to work on a racing team,not NASCAR, but sanctioned by them.It gets interesting when you try to figure the geometry for the car for the different track conditions and track temps. How to continually adjust the car as the race progresses to keep it competitive and the driver semi happy.
If you have never driven a NASCAR, I suggest you try it. There are variuos places you can go to drive on the tracks. You are seated in a fully race prepared car and are on the track for 8 to 30 laps depending on the package you purchase. You do follow a lead car, but as the laps go by, the faster you go. Not as easy as you may think to hold a car in line, inches off the wall, 3 car lenghts behind the lead car at 145 MPH. I did this at Lowes Motor speedway. I will be going to Talladega this summer to run 16 laps on a 2.66 mile track at speeds approching 170 + MPH.
I'll come down off my soapbox now. Not trying to push NASCAR on anyone,just saying don't knock it untill you have looked into it in depth.

That's what I meant. If you are a driver, I bet it's great. But I can't say I like to watch. That's just me. But I don't watch poker, darts, fishing, hunting, or even golf. Hell, I'm so busy it's hard enough to follow my football teams (pro & college) alone.

nascar is the most watched event of any sporting event period. they race from coast to coast now with all kinds of sponsers! even pro athletes and celebs. i never cared for it till i went to one then i was like dayum! i dont watch it every sunday etc. driving a car over 200mph is badass!

my buddies watch it but other than a couple of road courses its all go fast turn left.

the thing that bother me is its not stock car raceing. the cars are all the same just painted different.

it has been bastardized from the original concept that stock cars would race each other.

i loved it back in the 70s when they were real cars

Hell I worked in Nascar for 4 yrs while living in NC. Got to go to all the races, got see a bunch of celebrities(kid rock, Pamela Anderson,3 doors down, Kelly Clarkson, Will Farrel,ect...) Its a sport that you have to go see in person, go to Bristol Speedway, then you will be hooked. The car temps get to 140 degrees inside the car, there is no time out, there is no bathroom breaks, you are going 200mph, and 2'' away from someone, and always on the edge or wrecking, doing all of this for 5hrs, there is no other sport that requires that kind of discipline. But this is something I grew up around my whole life, so I may be a little bias.
