  • Protein Question

Hey Everyone. Does anyone know how much protein the body can actually process? I guess what I am asking is, is it even worth buying thes shakes now that claim to have 50+ grams per serving if your body can only process 25 or 30?

      Re: Protein Question

All these protein shakes that claim to have 50+ grams of protein are crap IMHO. Loaded with carbs and sugar, etc. These types of protein drinks are mostly for hard gainers and beginners not for advanced lifters. 25-40 grams is all you really need... even half of that will go down the toilet.

I agree with daved.....I have heard all kinds of different opinions on this from different numbers to different time frames.... during the winter I do try to gain weight so im not so much worried about the carbs in the drinks....but I was just asking in general regarding drinks and food intake.

Well, you want to get quality protein. I steer clear of the high sugar, high cal, high carb mixes. Just as deno said, when I first started training, I grabbed that (mass builder) stuff that was loaded with all that crap, but I was 135lbs at 5'11" with a metabolism that a cheetah couldn't catch. It wasn't long before I changed it up to a quality protein powder. It seems like all the good protein mixes are around 17-22g per serving. You can throw 2 scoops in there and get around 40g per shake. You can't get too much protein.

              Re: Protein Question

everyones body is going to react differently when digesting food, when it comes to protein shakes i think if you take 50g of just one type you are probably wasting some of it. Know if you get a fast acting and a slow acting you will have more benefits of takeing 50g of that.
