it wasn't the head gasket that kept it from starting. I had a frozen gasline.

i just found out after i started it that my head gasket was shot

Ah yes, was wondering why you were low on coolent.

And the proper term is "Blow head gasket" or "Leaky head gasket" The gasket is made out of a paper/rubber compound, no way it's gonna crack.

Good luck with the truck. Not a very expensive fix as far as parts go. But a fair amount of labour so it's cheap to do yourself, but can get costly to have a shop do it.
RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

At -28 celsius, it doesn't much matter how new your battery is. In that type of climate, it's good to have a battery heater. You should be able to jump it off with no problem, I would think.

I had the same problem when I was in the service stationed in South Dakota.

if the vehicle had a lack of antifreeze and the temps were extremely cold, the engine may have frozen. i have personall had this happen to my vehicle, i had a leak in my radiator and it drained it out when the temp was about 0 degrees farenheit.
