  • Ron Paul in debates

I guess I need to watch the republican debates that I've missed. A friend of mine that I had sold on Ron Paul stopped by last night and said, "I don't know about your man Ron Paul"..He's obviously kookier than I thought. I knew he was a little kooky but it sounds like he's lost in left field. I'm gonna have to see what my friend was talking about.

how so? he gets about 2 questions a debate so ask him to be specific..if you liked him once theres no reason he should sounds "kooky" now since he holds the same beliefs as he always has.

        Set him straight horsepwr,

It's always interesting to me how libertarians are always held to a double standard. If a voter disagrees with one position a libertarian has, it's a potential deal killer. Yet these same voters can have multiple disagreements with the typical pragmatist politician and they'll still vote for him/her.

I gotta watch what went on so I can arm up. I just gave it a "oh really"..and "huh"... I was ready to have no company. I'm gonna pull it up and try to see as much as I can to catch up. I try to watch the debates but I gather most of what I need to know from other references. Politicians will flip it up in a debate anyway.

simple. if he goes against the current direction of the GOP (read:the neocon agenda) he is a nutbag.

notice how they NEVER attack him on his position with regards to the issues. and if they do, they harp on ridiculous talking points in an effort to marginalize him as a candidate rather than his stance on the issues.

the goal is to make him look like a nutter, a loose cannon who doesn't deserve to be in the GOP. and it's obviously working.

            f*&$^%# media!!!!

exactly phreak.. fo example-i hate when they bring up his civil war point ( he disagrees that it was the right move)..and suddenly hes a racist bc hes pro slavery..Meanwhile hes right, we could have gotten rid of slavery with out a civil war..i think hed be winning if he had an = amount of press and debate time..hopefully guiliani and huckabee will drop out and he can pick up their delagates from the past and future primaries .

it would be nice to pick some of them up... i guess he could get some of huckabee's supporters because he is pro-life, but the guliani supporters? i dunno bout that.

                    Re: Ron Paul in debates

i'll tell you ron paul's major weakness- getting flustered and mixed up with his responses when confronted by the GOP. he should REFUSE to answer the questions that attempt to marginalize him and/or his credibility and request that they ask him questions pertinent to the issues the other candidates have answered. he needs to relax, sit back, and hit on the talking points where he will garner the most support- taxes, the economy, and the war. those three issues are the path to the white house IMO.

but, he gets flustered, and talks over top of himself, repeating points and jumping around in a way that makes him seem incompetent.

if you read his writings, they are brilliant. if he could only speak how he writes...

I wish he would quit the laughing when he is stating his unique position on things (doing away with the IRS, etc), I understand why he does it (because his positions are so off the main stream course) and without proper context they sound ridiculous but I still hate how it appears that he thinks his own positions are laughable. When he talks about the middle east conflicts and our foreign policy he is extremely confident and serious.

                        Re: Ron Paul in debates

It sucks that people are so easily sold on what they want to hear. I guess we'll always be that way. Just tell 'em what they want to hear and put a pretty ribbon on it and they'll buy it. Poeple think they are so smart too. Everybody has everybody beat. If people would actually get to some literature and read up on the candidates, they would see the difference. Hell, you can even go to the candidates websites and see the differences in some one that actually has an outlined plan of action as opposed to the same ole pretentious jargon. I think the debates are the worst way for someone to choose their man.

well he talks constantly about the fed screwing us and the need to return to the gold standard, which is the real reason for our dollar being destroyed..cutting rates even more is awful for our economy in the long run and these rebates dont help either..We need to return the money to the congress' hands and out of the feds.

gold, is no more than an idea, it has no intrinsic value other than jewelry, thus it is not neccesary

it's worth x because folks say so

it's not the gold, it's the balance sheet

our national credit card rate is 25% and going higher, yet, what is our solution, spend more
