My wife and I talk about it all the time. I grew up in the 80s and as kids we would go outside in the morning and stay gone all day long. You didn't have to worry about crazy dudes taking you.

I have a 12 year old daughter and granted I might be a little protective (cause I know theres little boys out there like I was) but I know where she is at ALL times.

Things were much cooler back then!

Plus we had Vanilla Ice, Mc Hammer and the Safety Dance!

Keep it real....who here used to "peg" or "tight roll" their blue jeans in the late 80s early 90s?

hah!...tight rolled jeans...If you weren't tight rolling your jeans in '87, you weren't cool. God I hate to have to fess up to that. LMAO!!! I can still picture that..lol. Even worse was the guy with the bad, long mullet. Old faded, fake Polo shirt. Tight fitting acid washed jeans, tight rolled, on top of those black Reebok high tops with the velcro strap at the ankle. Showing a little white sock. Carrying a Trapper Keeper. All gear is a year old and worn out. Can you picture it?

definitely better then. you used to have a problem with someone at school you fought after school, you shook hands afterwards and didn't have to worry that they would come back and shoot up the school on monday. kids didn't expect an Escalade on tyheir 16th birthday or for graduation. if you had a beat up '77 Malibu like i did in 1984 you were stoked. you weren't constantly bombarded with depressing, sensationalized news coverage from competing 24/7 news networks spinning their version of the news to draw viewers in. the most scandolous thing you saw or heard on network tv was Hawkeye on M*A*S*H calling a north korean general a son of a b-itch, now our kids are exposed to the Osbourne's? i thought i was a cool, bad-ass dude when i was 16 or 17 but i would never have even THOUGHT to be disrespectful to an eldery person cuz i knew i'd have an ass beating waiting when i got home. i wasn't afraid of anyone but i would always reply respectfully whenever i had to deal with a police officer, no mouthing off and posturing trying to provoke them. kids today have been programmed and conditioned to have an air of entitlement, i deserve a ferrari, i shouldn't have to work at McD's for money, etc. Kinda sad.

I remember that in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, a kid would look forward to waking up every Saturday morning to watch their favorite cartoons. Now, there's a ****load of stupid crap on TV. With any luck, you might catch a few good cartoons on cable. That is, if there isn't any infomercials on instead.

That's another thing, at least we didn't have infomercials in the 60's and 70's. Reagan put an end to that for us in the 80's.

And for those of you who were either not around yet or too young to remember, although gas in the 80's were about 75-89 cents a gallon, I can remember the gasoline shortage of the 80's. Every station had block long lines and some station managers would limit the sales to 10 gallons.

Well as far as socially, those were great days. Economically it was mess. One of the highesty unemployment periods in american history(80's). You couldn't buy a good job. Remember the recession? Reagannomics? That guy ruined the economy. Then Sr. bush made it worse......

i'd still take the atmosphere of the 80's over the present.
