  • Maxell CD-R...garbage

I got some Maxell CD-Rs to put music on them. I won't make that mistake again. They suck. They don't work. The'll make it about half way through the writing session and kick out. I got one to copy the whole CD but when I played it in my truck last night, it messed up when I tried to go forward a few tracks. It just started clicking. Maxell=garbage. I wish I didn't throw them in the trash so I could take them back and throw them on the counter and say "these don't work. Stop selling them." and get one of my trusty usual brands for only a couple dollars with the return credit. But, oh well...lesson learned.
Just figured I'd drop a beware thread.

i use them also, but never had that prob. the only prob i ever have, with just about all of them, is after playing it for a month or 3, the deeper you go into the cd, the more liklyhood that it starts to skip...but, all of them do that to me

I just successfully created the CDs with no prob useing my old trusty Memorex. I don't know what the problem was with the Maxells.
But I know what you're talkin about after plenty of play. Remember when recording music to CD-Rs first started hittin in the late 90s like 98'/'99? You could breathe on one wrong and it would skip. When they scratched, you could see thru it where the scratch was. Sony's have always been good. I don't have much problems out of Memorex, but those Maxells were giving me hell.

could be the operater...bastud...lol... The ones I had came in a kinda mint green package and the disc itself was silver. I noticed they had Maxells that said "for music". I've never had to buy any that say "for music". I bet you get the Maxell Dubz, lol...they look like flashy wheels. I was thinkin about getting those to hang from my rearview mirror

If I remember correctly, the Maxell for Music came in a kinda mustard or copper colored package.
I got the Maxells that I had to record one full disk, but it locked up when I tried to go forward a few tracks in my cd player and started clicking so out it went. The other 3 times I tried to copy, the Maxells kicked out during writing. You could see that it had writen about half way. I dont' know. Probably operator error. The Sonys and Memorex are dumby proof so I'll stick with those.

Try slowing your write speed down - even if they're rated for high burn speeds, some drives will have problems with certain brands if you write to them too fast. A number of players tell you to burn at no faster than 4x to prevent writing errors - I had the same problem a few years ago - slowing the write speed fixed the problem.

Are you formatting the cd prior to recording? I know on my cd writer if I don't format, or prepare, the cd it has problems. But, once I learned how to do it correctly, I had no probs at all. I use the maxell CD-R and I have had no probs with music, programs, nothing after learning how to use the programs that records things.

Or, like CL stated, you may be recording at too high of a speed.

I'm thinkin it's the record speed. I think the Maxells had a slower rate than what I normally use. I didn't think about it.

I was thinkin maybe an ID 10 T mistake.

whatever the case, the Maxells are filed accordingly.
