I'm for the door job too. Suicide doors look tuff on early model, up to late 50s, anything to me. It's like they should open like that. And step out in a pinstripe with a Tommy gun.

Got a 327 under the hood with a small cam. The trany is a 350 turbo auto and I really don't know about the rear end. I'm sure I'll end up goin with a ford 9" back there with a fat 4 bar system.

Can't dik around with the gear in that thing. 4.56 ring and pinion gear might be stout enough.

Yeah, I really haven't made up my mind completely how much I wanna beef it all up. I got PLENTY to do before that, lol.

Re: Here's what I just bought

oh yeah, take your time. Just for out and about, it's nice to have that gear. It's...well, I was about to say it's inexpensive but I have a 9.75 Ford chunk and I was used to swaping 8.8s for under $200. That 9.75 was just under $1000 with labor and synthetic fluid. Just the ring and pinion was $400. I got the last 4.10 in the USA at that time. It would have been 4 months until I could have got another one. I'm happy with it in my daily driver. I would definitely go 4.56 in that toy though.
I wonder how much that '51 weighs.???

Re: Here's what I just bought

I may do that, like I said it'll be on down the road though. I just got new glass for the doors (one piece) and the electric window setup and that ran me a little over 800. I still gotta get the carb figured out that damn thing is becoming a nightmare! I also have a small leak at the rear seal that I gotta get taken care of, and the list goes on from there, lol!
Oh and I found out a couple of weeks ago that it's actually a 1950 model. The guy who sold it to me didn't know. I ran the serial number and it came back as a 1950 assembled in Shreevsport La. so I checked a little further and found out that they started with 8 wood planks in 51, mine has 9.

wow...well that's good to know. It helps to have the year correct. Power windows will be sweet. What kind of intake and carb is on it? Get that thing feeding through a fueli system and that will be one less constant hassle. Not to mention the added power and smooth powerband you get from EFI. You should be able to pick up a badass intake for a really decent price. You can do alot for less with GM parts. The wiring should be pretty cut and dry...a nice weekend project. Or have an up-to-date ignition guy do the wiring. That'd be nice. Pick up a good used intake and have it ported and polished. Then while you're right there, you might as well hook the wet kit up.

                              Beautiful truck kite!
                              I like that style.
My Dodge is of similar vintage - a 49
I would recommend checking out the HotRodsToHell website about alternate rear suspension ideas.
THe four bar may be easier but I think you"ll find the four bar a bit rough on the daily driving if you plan to do much cruising.
I could be wrong but every four link I've riden in doesnt feel very sweet. of course that doesnt mean they were set up right either.

Give the site a look if you get a chance.
And a lot of it can be done fairly easy also.

                              Just a thought---especially for a truck!
