Look bro, every guy I ever knew that went into the military told me horror sotries about their drinking binges. Trust me bro, the military is NOT going to cure you of drinking. If anything, the fact you could have lost your wife should be all you need bro.

Here's how you need to handle things IMO....everytime you are at a point of choice, you have to ask yourself these questions...

1. will the choice I make be fair to myself and all those I care about?
2. will the choice I make be an ethical and honet one?
3. will the choice I make possible hurt me or anyone I care about?

If you can do that, you will make the right choices. Now, for me, I add in 'will the choice I make be pleasing to God?' That's the one that usually makes or breaks the choice for me, but that's me.

This is a wake up call, so don't hit the snooze button, get up and get your life right bro!

dude let me tell you from experience don't drink. It just clouds your mind and gets you into trouble. I got a dui too, had a wife etc. I totally enjoy being sober and watching all the fukd up people out there. I still go out clubbing but no drinking and I have more fun. It sucks the first time or too but you just have to be strong willed. If drinking is bothering your wife then if you love her you just need to give it up. End of story. Lots of good advice above. Keep out of the bottle or can and go get a hobby. If all your friends do is party then time for some new friends. Tman and I go way back and we have seen where it can get some of us. One last word of advice having been in the military. You don't need it unless your going to be an officer or your just out of high school and college or tech school isn't for you. I think it is safe to say that if you join you can write your wife off. But whatever you decide do it with a clear head. Good luck bro!

it is not the drinking, it is what it does too you, most likely like most folks the drinking is a form of self medication, and for you my best guess is it is a way too physically relaxe, and shut your mind down from running a million miles an hour, thus, it is in most ways a stress reliever, release

HABIT IS A CABLE, WE WEAVE A THREAD OF IT EVERYDAY UNTIL ONE DAY IT BECOMES UNBREAKABLE

habits weave both ways, good and bad


note also, most of your posts are of the ilk, greatest time of my life, or worst time of my life, u have high highs and lows lows, thus the drinky helps you move away from such drastic emotions for a brief period of time by shutting off the brain from the body, thus the relaxation for brief period of time

alot of what u need is just some patience and time and awareness

use the little goals bro, what are the ones for this week??? did u write them down??? do you have a log of them???

Tmann is aware of his philosophy. He has a conscientious decision making process, that does not contradict his beliefs, about reality, or his values. He has priorities he doesn't sacrifice. In other words Tmann knows himself and what is important to him. And life is so freaking simple (not to be confused with easy) once you have defined and prioritized your values (what makes you happy). Everyone has a philosophy; the results of their philosophy is their life. If your life feels like it is out of control; you have based some decisions (and acted on them), on some beliefs that are in contradiction to where you want to be going in life.

marriage is tugh bro...if you love her you need to devote 100% of yourself to making the marriage work...i have been married for 13 years, and we still have to work on problems and on just making our marriage work..it aint easy. Loving each other is not enough....You know what your flaws are...try and straighten them out one at a time, and you will see a big change...good luck Byron!

95% of folks value systems were formed in childhood and have no real idea what they are, until u uncover and discover and choose the ones you want, versus what u were shown or taught, most likely wrong, cause it is passed down from generation too generation, ie, bad inadequte value systems,

byron, they seem to have covered everything....

i dont have military experience, but i have recently become a firefighter. I have never felt so much respect just from putting a uniform on. I am still a bit of a **** up at times......but at the same time i feel like i am doing something useful to society and i feel better about myself for it. If you are looking for a new direction you might want to look into it.

military is a good option. I think it should be mandatory for evyone when they get out of high school It..but i would not advise yu to volunteer when you are trying to save a marriage. you would be gone to boot camp for 4 months minimum away from her, then they could send you to Iraq, or Korea or somewhere she cant accompany you...not good for a marriage on the rocks imo

THE REASON WE SPLIT UP IS BECAUSE OF ME I DIDN'T CALL OR COME HOME TILL 5 IN THE MORNING A COUPLE WEEKS AGO I JUST HAD QUIT MY JOB, BEEN FIGHTING AN ADDICTION PROBLEM, BEEN UNHAPPY WITH MYSELF AND WITH MY MARRIAGE. ME AS A PERSON I NEVER USED TO BE THIS WAY. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF FINDING OUT IF I AM MANIC DEPESSIVE BUT I LOST MY HEALTH INSURANCE AND I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING COBRA ITS JUST REALLY EXPENSIVE. I AM REALLY LOOKING AT BECOMING A POLICE OFFICER IN THE FUTURE. I HAVE TO HANDLE THE DUI THING FIRST I HAVE 2500 IN CASH SET BACK TO PAY TO MAKE THIS THING GO AWAY I HOPE ITS ENOUGH SINCE ITS MY FIRST. I AM BARTENDING AND SERVING RIGHT NOW. NO I CAN NOT DRINK ON THE JOB.
