i baught a 2001 ford excursion black/tan, 4x4, 91k miles, limited, turbo diesel, on ebay. leather, 2 tv screens, dvd, playstation 2, overize tires, jammed up!. i baught it to send to the auction...i think i can pick up about 1500. or better on it. i had to go about 150-175 miles to get it...driving home, i think i fell in love!! lol...i hate when that happens!! i get my heart broke more times like that!!

Congrats brutha... sounds like a awesome ride... I'd hate to own it in the islands - cost of diesel is insane! $3.55 per gallon... ouch!

bro, they are great trucks but there is no way its gonna get 20 mpg.

i had a 01 ford pu single cab with a shortbed(same motor), lighter than the excursion and i was lucky to get 14 in the city and 20 on the highway, this is being easy on it. with a highflow exhaust and K&N intake which helped some.
i am not bagging on the truck i think they are awesome just giving you real world fuel figures. ford forums is a good place to check and see what real people get in their vehicles. dont go by the sticker

if fuel economy is an issue this isnt the truck to buy. otherwise you will be cruising a massive kickass beast!

dude...you kiddin?....i dont need a ford forum to tell me anything about ford...i've been involved with ford for over 20 yrs!! and i actualy got 21.8 avg @ 68mph on i-69 for 125+miles on they way home. after exiting at my exit, and driving to my drivway about 15miles from expressway, the avg. dropped to 18.9mpg. also, as you probobly know, alot of gas milage is the result of the rear end the truck is sporting, so it dosnt surprise me that your lighter truck (reg cab is typicly contractor truck, geared for heavy pulling buy the dealership that ordered it new) would get worse or the same gas milage than a unit ordered for highway/pleasure transport....if it would help you to believe me, i'll be happy to take a pick of truck computer display showing the avg miles per gallon, along with a pic of gas needle start, gas needle finish and odometer....I DONT BULL**** ON MY UNITS....i take it very seriously, and if i tell you something about a unit of mine, you can bet your life on it!

oh, also does have high flow exhaust and k&n...i just baught the unit and the customer i baught from did not mention if he put a coputer programing do-hicky on it...i will invetigate that possability becouse those are THE worst thing to put on a 7.3 turbo diesel (actually TRASHES trans!!!) other than that possibily...it is what it is!

i didnt know they made a 3/4 ton heavy duty in reg cab short bed. I used to get 19-20 mpg in my power stroke all day long

sold it...got 9500 for that piece. baught a set of 22's for 500$ and pimped it out for 300 with tv/dvd. homies were all over that truck. i just had the same as this excursion w/ 6" suspension lift, blue limited w/5.4 v8. had a salvage title, but it was just a stolen recovery, no accident damage....got 14k for that truck! you want one of those expeditions bro?...tell me and i'll steal ya one (ya might even be able to talk me into delivering it, lol) there still kinda cheap for the next 4-6 weeks...then, the fall market heats them up

Yeah there is a big difference between an SUV & p/u. My wife's 2001 Expedition got 25-26 hwy at her driving rpm. I know I'm not getting the 19 I'm supposed to get with my latest engine design 5.4. I should be getting better for some mods done but I changed the gearing and negated any of that I'm sure.

And Dave you need to go read up on Fords bro. lol...that was classic.

it's a whole diff. story when you mod them out, thats for sure. 25-26 on an 01 is HUGE!!! i've never been able to get that kind of milage, but i've always drove 4x4's and i'm sure they were set up for combination towing/pleasure. that 99 i took to fuzo's got 19 (average hwy/city) and i know by the rpm's it was set for towing! i believe previouse owner pulled horse trailor.

oh, and i hope i didnt come off as "know all, be all"...i get a little testy when someone calls bullshyt on me in regards to a unit i'm driving. i dont make false claims, and lie about things i sell...just not the way i roll. i dont know everything (no big surprize there) but i know what i say to be FACT when it's in regard to auto's i'm selling. and any of my opinions are based on years in the auto biz dealing with some of the top service managers, service tech, designers from saleen and jack rouch himself (i actuall knew about the "jack black" addition mustang a yr or 2 before he made it, and i delived him 2 practice units to his office)....sorry if it came off that i was being an asz...you guy's know me, i'm not like that...(well, on everyother subject i am)

my wife's was a 2wd. It was also a 4.6 so once you got cruising on the hwy that high gearing kept the RPMs way down there. The k&n helped a gnat's asz as well. Ford rules the world with the modular motor. The power keeps going up and the gas mileage remains the same for the last decade. My 98GT got 25hwy stock @225hp. My mother's '06 GT gets 25 mpg/hwy @ 300hp.

nooo...that is VERY TRUE with the 4x4 v10!!! i have one here also...it has a rep for going 250-300k easy, but you aint passing a gas station getting there! i got a red limited 4x4 v10 that gets 11 avg city! i'm having a had time dumping it becouse of that mpg avg shows on the overhead display...i think we're gonna take it out and put in a tv/dvd, lower it and add som 22's also!!!...they built those for the folks that needed to pull heavy loads, but didnt want or couldnt afford the diesel. again, most of the time, we ordered those geared for pulling!
