That's a whole new other topic. I agree 110%. So maybe everyone needs to rally and ask a Presidential Candidate how he/she plans on reducing foreign aid to other Countries. Maybe we need to vote the President in who has the best plan for reducing foreign aid. Think about it, reduce foreign aid, more money for us! Sounds like a simple end to alot of problems. Hey, maybe the elderly can get together and rally for this! That might keep them off the road and out of the left lane while they drive 35 in a 50 zone and slow us hard working people up during the day!

      Re: A little help

      1) Your Anthony Robbins argument falls apart on your own comments. The children did NOT "put themselves there", ergo, the statement you make about self-determination is moot. What would you do with a severely disabled child? The parents cant afford to pay their bills.

      2) Don't you know that before one can receive Medicare benefit payments for a nursing home, you have to get rid of all your assets down to $2000? The elderly pay out, sell that home youre talking about, etc. everything they have down to $2000 to go into a nursing home before Medicare will start paying. They pay the bills instead of medicare down to their last $2000. All the work and savings do not go to family, it already goes to the govt, unless they can avoid this by giving it away to family prior to nursing home placement, and that is tricky.

I do agree that we all have a responsibility to prepare ourselves to be ready for the future. I do think, however that healthcare prices have outpaced the saving ability of most-if not all individuals. A stay in an ICU bed can cost over $2000 a day. Throw in a bypass surgery for about $90,000 plus a week in ICU at $14,000 plus a few weeks in rehab at $20,000 plus medications, etc. If a nursing home is required, NOBODY can plan for that.

You never replied to my question about euthanasia, AOM. It seems that the logical end to your argument would be to perform this on the sick/elderly that have not "prepared" themselves through the years for the future as you suggest. I am sure you, too, are carefully investing every extra dime you have, insuring yourself a great hospital bed when you're 80. Maybe the couple hundred bucks you drop on gear every so often would do better in a mutual fund for your old age.
