I started a swim team here in our community last year just for something fun for the kids to do during the summer. I coach the team mainly because my daughter is on it and since I swam in college I might be able to teach them a little more than a 17 year old lifeguard.
Last year we lost all of our meets. This year we started out that way losing our first three meets. The difference this year was we were only losing by 20and 30 points (about a field goal in swimming). Then something clicked as we won 2 of our last 3 and one of those wins came at the expense of last years champions who was undefeated at the time. That, I felt like, was our Super Bowl.
We went into the League Championship Meet with the mind set of anything other than last would be an improvement and we'd be happy. I was keeping track of the meet and out of the five teams there I felt like we were at least holding our own. Well they announced the scores in reverse order, 5, 4, 3, 2.
When it was all said and done we had won the meet by more than 200 points over second place.
I am still in a daze over the unexpected outcome. It was really great to see how hard the kids worked and all the hard work pay off. As you can tell I am extremely proud of the kids, thus the reason for this post.
