  • home waxing...

so, i've been saying i wanted to try this. i picked up sally hensons home wax kit at walmart, about 2 weeks ago. i've been trying to get my wife to do it, but we never have time. sunday, before we headed off to the lake, i told my wife, after i take a shower i want you to do this...cool.
so, we microwave the wax (no prob's there, but you do sence prob's coming, dont you?) she starts with my upper trap/back area, rips the hair out...cool. it's a little messy, and a little painful, but really no big deal. as she's working her way down my right side back, i start reading the directions...see?, being male, i know the PROPER time to read the directions FULLY, is during the operation...no sence in reading shyt you dont need to know, before you need to know it! so, about halfway down my lat, i read, in bigger type, at the end of said directions, wait 1 to 1.5 hrs after shower, before waxing...having the good sence of passing time that i do, i knew i waited all of 10 mins...i tell her hold up...we may have a problem! we decide that it'd be a good idea to clean it up with the provided skin softing, extra wax removing oil that is provided, and just shave the rest. it was pretty red, but seemed fine.
fast forward to monday morning. i wake up, cook breakfast, and prepair to hit the lake! when i take off my shirt, my wife's jaw just drops...it was one of those "oh, shyt" type faces. i go and look at my back in the mirror, and from where it was waxed, there are about 250-300 whiteheads!! i shyt you not!! there was propobly more than that! it was unbelievable!! she hit them with some oxy pads and they all (all but about 10-12) dryed up from the sun. now, my question...ya think it was the "1 hour after shower blah, blah, blah..." part, or a reaction to the oil?

I work in a salon/spa where we do body waxing. I do know that after you have a warm shower, your pores are open and your skin swells up from the heat. If you wax, or shave when your skin is swollen, you will not get a close enough shave, or wax. The fact the your pores are open may be why they tell you to wait awhile. A cool rinse, if you can stand it, will contract the pores, before you get out of the shower. I don't really think that this created actual whiteheads, but maybe just a reaction to the wax. Next time, try a small area first as a test.

I havne't tried waxing yet but may soon. I hear laser treatment is costly.
BUT I can't imagine it had anything to do with the time you waited.
      But I honestly don't know.
      Reaction to the oil? Possibly.
Or it could simply be your bodys reaction to the procedure and irritation.
I know if I get razon burn from shaving my hamstrings, etc. then the whiteheads come out is force. Not nearly as severe as what you describe but the bumps and whiteheads are there.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

hopefully not the wax, becouse i want to try it again, adhering a little closer to directions. becouse the poors were open from the shower, could the "finishing oil" had anything to do with it ya think?

I think that is a strong possibility. If your pores were still open, the oil would then clog them giving you the whiteheads. Is it all cleared up now?

there's only like 5-6 that popped back up overnight, but there are still some bumps, but nothing like it was...it was pretty bad

When I go into work tonight, I will ask the estetician about this and how you can avoid this from happening.

                    Re: home waxing...

Here's my take on it....I did that once and had the exact same thing. Literally hundreds of pimples. It is my opinion that it was from using cheap wax or going the wrong direction. The goal in waxing is to ripe out the root of the hairs. If you do not remove the roots, like what happened to me, the hair breaks off. The pimples were the results of ingrown hairs. That's right, I had hundreds of hairs trying to break back throught eh surface and for a week or so I had the most disgusting looking back.

With that said, I know guys who go to good salons and they get their done and have no issues. It think it's because the wax they use is better and it rips the whole root out and there is nothing to cause the ingrown hairs. This is just my opinion but I will never ever wax again after my experience. I had those things all over my chest and back and it was just nasty. Now, I just buzz it with hair clippers and no guard. It's not baby butt smooth but you can't tell either.

Another option is to buzz it short and use Nair, I know guys with great success with that stuff. However, with nair there is some time limit between the time you do it and the time you shower and I've had guys tell me they got right in the shower after using Nair and got all these bumps. So, it's important to follow the directions. They have come to that conclusion by trial and error.

i dont know t...they mostly went away over night. seems to me, ingrown would hurt and last longer.

Yeah, mine did hurt longer but I didn't do what you did and scrub with an oxy pad and get some sun. Had I done that, mine might have dried up sooner too. I don't know for sure, but that's what I think happened in my case. But, if most of it is gone, then your case could be totally different than mine. All I know is I won't do it again. lol. I have very sensitive skin too so that doesn't help either.
