Re: car info can anyone help me out?
man Byron, I dont know alot about benz's. I think if its what you want and you can afford it then buy it. Look it up and see if the price is in line with the age and milage of the vehicle and also have a mechanic look it over for you, it will probably cost from 50-100 bucks to have it looked over real well. But better to have that done than buy it and get it home and find out you have to dump a bunch of extra cash that you hadnt intended on into it. If its cool and you like it then go for it. All cars have to be kept up so general maintenance is part of it.

Re: car info can anyone help me out?
Kinda expensive? The only car I think with more expensive up keep would be a Range Rover. Dude, that car is practically 15 years old. Say 'no' and get something you can rely on. Benz makes a great car with a great engine, but you have no idea what that car has been through over the last 14 + years. It would be one thing if your parents had it and you took it over and you knew the history of it, but never buy old cars that cost a lot to repair unless you know the hsitory or you can afford the repairs.
I used to have an old Saab on a tight budget and that car kept my ass broke all the time. The engine was great, the clutch and tranny was great, the turbo worked great but all the smaller stuff like fuel pumps, vaccum system, etc cost a fortune on import cars.
Unless you know how to work on cars, I would never buy an older car. You know who to work on them then you can go to a junk yard and get parts and save yourself a fortune, but to buy a car like benz that is 14 years old could be very very expensive. One thing to remember about cars is most people don't sell a car if it's in great condition, why would they? if I had an older car and it ran great, I would run it until it started giving me probs and sell it. That's what most people do.
Look bro, if it was me, I would spend that money on a down payment for something new and get a warranty. If you weren't on a tight budget then I'd say go for it, but since you are, a car with a warranty makes the most sense IMO.

Re: car info can anyone help me out?
I kinda gotta go with T-man here. I can understand the lure of getting an older model high-end car for cheap but he`s right. I bought an import like that once too and what t-man said is true. Engine was fine, it was the godamn fuel-injector chip fuses for 60 each. 500 dollar fuel pumps. Oh, and if you have a little dinger and gotta replace a side mirror... forget it.
Don`t forget that even just an oil change is gonna run you more.
I`d rather buy somthing more reliable (like an old lexus).

Re: car info can anyone help me out?
I'd do a check with local junk yards and see how available parts would be for it. If your able to find parts readily available for a decent price I'd say go for it. You have one life to live bro!
You've got the perfect wife, home, and are working on getting the perfect body. Why not top it off with the perfect car to make your life complete?

i agree with you
the only way what you say would be true is if you had EXPERTISE in this area
so, since he does not, he has a high probability of it being a bad bad decision, and a low one of being successful, also, he has a high probability of getting bad expert advice if he sought it out
thus, the cards are not in his favor, thus, pass
good deals come by all the time, pounce on the ones with little or no risk
that's the way to make muhlah
the only expertise i trust is my own, and someone i have done due diligence on and know all there is too know about

Re: car info can anyone help me out?
SO...LETS SEE, YOU WANT TO BUY A 14 YEAR OLD CAR. BENZ OR NOT, I DON'T CARE, YOU'RE GOING TO RUN INTO SOME TYPE OF PROBLEMS, ITS JUST TOO BIG OF A RISK. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A NEWER ONE, OR TAKE THAT ALMOST 6 GRAND AND PUT IT DOWN ON A NEWER BENZ (AT LEAST '02ISH) SO YOU CAN STILL HAVE A WARRANTY. DON'T BE ADDAMENT ABOUT THIS PURCHASE, IT'S NOT VERY WISE IMO.

Re: car info can anyone help me out?
dave,
you're 100% will not disagree with your general analysis
i should of qualified better, i've been answering byrons questions for a long time, and we've pm'd a time or two on some hard choices
if i remember correctly six months ago, he was in a money panic, problem time, so i'm not against gratification, it's just working with young folks so many get way behind the 8 ball based on bad money decisions
i can almost guarantee you everyone on this board will have 3 decent sized expenses this year, that are not budgeted, that will pinch u, if you make good bucks no biggie, if moneys tight it's panic time
i had a bunch of teenagers rip off the lug nuts on my car two weeks ago, of course didn't know, pulled out and wheel fell off, ahhhhh-hhhhhhh, there's a few hundred bucks in repairs not accounted for in the budget
i always budget 1,500 bucks for emergency expenses a year, and one cannot game what it will be, yet, for 25 years now, it's happened every year
so, it was more of a, if your fully flush with money and the future is so bright, reward yourself, if not, re-evaluate
i know you're deal, emotions baby, lol, not putting it down, just know how it goes
