Can anyone tell me how to restore the user profiles in Windows 2000? For some reason my profile was overwritten/replaced and I can't access my desktop the way it used to be. I now have a whole new desktop without all my original user settings.

Did you have a backup of it? You have to restore a portion of the registry, as each user profile stored locally has a seperate guid.The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

Thanks guys. No, I don't have a current backup. Only thing I usually back up is data files , not Windows. Any way to rename or change in Documents & Settings folder to log on as I originally did? Or the most important thing to me right now is I need my Outlook Address book. Is there any way I can find the data file and copy it to the profile that I'm logged on to now?So be sure that you are makin the best of what that you have

OK... here goes.
What happened to your old profile?
For your outlook address book, try doing a search for *.PAB and *.OST files on your machine. Post what you find and I'll give you the next instructions.RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

No results to display> My machine locked up after I was trying to close down this Browser Pal window pop-up. When I went to log on again after reboot, the desktop was like when you first start up. All the internet connections settings were gone Blah , blah.

Thanks for the replies. Whats' really embarassing is I take care of all the computers for the company where I work. I set up two servers and a LAN/WAN with about 10 users all Windows 2000 Server/Client. For some reason the network has slowly been unraveling with stuff like this happening just about every day. It's been driving me nuts and my boss is not too happy right now.So be sure that you are makin the best of what that you have

doesn't it have a restore point? You could try that.Comment
