ANYONE THAT HAS HAD C5-C6-C6-C7 NECK FUSION. ITS WHERE THEY TAKE OUT YOUR DISK AND PUT A NEW ONE IN. THEY CUT YOUR FROM THE FRONT OF YOUR THROAT AND MOVE ALL YOUR **** OVER TO ONE SIDE TO GET TO THE DISK. TAKE OUT THE DISK PUT A NE ONE IN A SMALL PLATE SOME SCREWS AND YOUR DONE. YOU LOSE SOME OF YOUR UP MOTION WHEN YOU HAVE THIS TYPE OF SURGERY. I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT LOOKING UP ITS I CANT HARDLY LOOK LEFT IT HURTS SO BAD. AND PLUS THE NUMBNESS IN MY HANDS AND FINGERS AND JUST YOUR NECK AND TRAP AREA IN CONSTANT PAIN.I CANT EVEN LAY MY HEAD ON A PILLOW NOW FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE THE PAIN KICKS IN. I'M NOT GOING TO LIE I'M A LITTLE NERVEOUS.BUT MY DOC SAYS I'LL BE BACK TO MY JOB LOADING PLANES AND STUFF AND WORKING OUT AGAIN.I WILL JUST LOSE IT IF I CANT DO ALL MY LIOFTING LKE I DO NOW.

sorry bro...nobody i know of recently...i know a goy in fla. that had it done when i was down there, but it's not like hr did anything physical anyways. he was a salesman. i know i've heard of the procedure before...i wouldnt worry about it, it's been done plenty, i'm sure

It wasn't the neck but a buddy of mine had something similar to this done in his lower back. The docs told him he's never be able to lift anything very heavy angain. He talked to Louie Simmons, Lou told him that was complete bull**** and start pulling the sled immediately, working from lower weights up to heavier ones. Four months after the surgery he pulled 675 (a pr) at a meet, then 3 months later he hit 700. I know it's a different deal but it should still give you some hope. If ya want I can give you Lou's number, he's always willing to talk to lifters.

its not cervical but i had L-5 fused to the secrum after taking out the disc. it was 18 years ago so the tech is not as good as now.

i will say my back is 95%. i can do almost anything i could do before and most of my nagging pain is gone

neck or back surgery is always risky. ask the doc for references and get a second or third opinion because if he screws you up you have to live with it.

Fuzo, are they going to install an artificial disc or fuse the vertebra together? My oldest brother works at smith/nephew medical where they actually design and produce many medical implant parts. Just want to make sure you are getting the latest and best procedure done.

My uncle had this done - but he had two broken vertabrae in the neck and was having problems with his leg not neck. He didn't even know he had a neck problem.
Since he has had it done his legs aren't much of a problem but he doesn't do much bending or lifting anymore at all. He was not active in that way before so it's really a bad example.

Sorry I can't help anymore FUZO - My mother is supposed to be getting nearly the same thing done but as of yet has not.
Of course she's about as active as Garfield the cat soooooo that would be a very poor comparison as well.

Okay, I'm sure you've read on occasion about my two surgeries in 01 & 02.

Anyways, from 98 too 2001 I saw 13 doctors until properly diagnosed.

One diagnoses was the vertebrae problem, of course they wanted to do surgery right away. I said wait a minute, let me check it out.

So, this is 99 I found two guys I worked with who had had the neck surgery back in like 92 & 95, both of them had same story of pain yada yada, both have had zippo problems since the surgery and all is good as new. Kind of like you say, you'll loose a little of looking up or side too side, yet, nothing to worry about.

I think, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, they started the disc replacements in like 200-2001, this is light years better than the fusion, and if you go to some websites and read and see pictures you will see why.

Fuzo, man I can feel your pain, I know exactly what you're going through, I'd say you're very in tune with your body, very smart, so high probability you have a great doctor who's one of the best, which is the best you can do.

In 3-4 months you'll look back on this and be velly happy.

closest thing tothat bro was I had a collapsed C5 and I had to get epideral out patient shots in the spine to push the disk back into place. It still bothers me though and I wouldn't doubt if I needed more done soon...

yep my mom had that done back in 98 she has some pain still but nothing like before...she is functional LOL and she can still move her neck left and right..up and down... can give ya her doc info if you want he is the best....you would have to come out here though LOL

My wife had some things fused in her neck - I'm not sure where though. This was after a hit-and-run accident that the doctors were saying she was lucky to survive. She has limited side-to-side mobility as a result.
